AILERON AND RUDDER TRIM CONTROL MECHANISM - INSPECTION/CHECK1. Tools and Equipment RequiredA. Protractor (5916715, Douglas Aircraft Co.) or equivalent, may be used to measurecontrol surface angles.B. Control surfaces are adjust to neutral position only. If surface throw limits are notobtained, check system for obstruction, excessive wear, or damage.2. Inspection/Check - Aileron and Rudder Trim Control MechanismA. Check Aileron Trim ControlNOTE: Angular dimensions for checking aileron trim tab travel are measured byholding protractor on rigging reference lines on lower surface of tab asdescribed in 27-00 , Maintenance Practices.(1) Rotate aileron trim control knob to extreme right and left positions, then rotate knobto align pointer with rig .neutral notch. Check that mechanism operates smoothlywithout binding and that aileron trim tabs are returned to faired position.(2) Rotate trim control knob clockwise until stops contact and make following checks.(a) Check that left trim tab is 20 1/2 (plus2, -1) degrees above faired position.(b) Check that right trim tab is 20 1/2 (plus2, -1) degrees below faired position.(3) Rotate trim control knob counterclockwise until stops contact and make followingchecks.(a) Check that right trim tab is 20 1/2 (plus2, -1) degrees above faired position.(b) Check that left trim tab is 20 1/2 (plus2, -1) degrees below faired position.(4) Return trim tabs to faired position.B.
