RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK - DO NOTOPENSAFEGUARDS:1. If an outside antenna is connected to the equipment, besure the antenna system is grounded so as to providesome protection against voltage surges and built-upstatic charges. Section 810 of the National ElectricalCode provides information with respect to propergrounding of the mast and supporting structure,grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna dischargeunit, size of the grounding conductors, location ofantenna-discharge unit, connections to groundingelectrodes, and requirements for the groundingelectrode. Please see figure below.2. For added protection for this electronic equipmentduring a lighting storm, or when it is left unattended andunused for long period of time, unplug it from the walloutlet and disconnect the antenna. This will preventdamage to the device due to lightning and power-linesurges.3. An outside antenna system should not be located in thevicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light orpower circuits, or where it can fall into such power linesor circuits. When installing an outside antenna system,extreme care should be taken to keep from touchingsuch power lines or circuits as contact with them mightbe fatal.“Note to CATV systems installer: This reminder isprovided to call the CATV system installers’ attentionto Article 820-40 of the National Electrical Code thatprovides guidelines for proper grounding and, inparticular, specifies that the cable ground shall beconnected to the grounding system of the building,as close to the point of cable entry as practical.” |
