161433105L1-5F Section 61433105L1, Issue 61. GENERALThis practice provides installation and maintenanceprocedures for the ADTRAN Series 5 Total ReachDDS-DP All-Rate DDS Dataport. Figure 1 is anillustration of the ADTRAN Series 5 Total ReachDDS-DP, P/N 1433105L1.Revision HistoryThis document has been revised to incorporate theresponse to the loopback pushbutton function of theDDS-R ACE remote unit, and add reference to falselatching loopback prevention at 64 kbps.DescriptionThe ADTRAN Series 5 Total Reach DDS-DP is afunctional replacement for the SLC® Series 5 OCUDP, CLEI 5SCU48, delivering data at rates up to 64kbps using a single copper pair. Used in combinationwith the DDS-R termination unit, the Series 5Series 5 Total Reach® DDS-DPTotal Reach All-Rate DDS DataportInstallation and MaintenanceSection 61433105L1-5FIssue 6, June 2002CLEI Code: 5SC53X4F_ _Trademarks: Any brand names and product names included in this document are trademarks, registered trademarks, or trade names of their respective holders.DDS-DP can accommodate extended loop lengths, eliminating the need for DDS repeaters. The Series 5DDS-DP span powers the DDS-R located at thecustomer premises. The DDS-R converts the 2-wiresignal to the traditional 4-wire Alternate MarkInversion (AMI) signal for presentation to thecustomer. The DDS-DP occupies a single channel position in theAT&T® SLC Series 5 or Series 5 compatible channelbank. It provides the interface between a DS0 timeslot of the T-carrier data stream and the 2-wiremetallic loop extending to the customer premises. TheSeries 5 Total Reach DDS-DP will interoperate overthe carrier system with another DDS-DP, OCU DP,DS0 DP, 1/0 DCS, or switch and can be located in anend office, hub office, intermediate office, or DigitalLoop Carrier (Figure 2). The 2-wire loop isconnected using the odd pair Tip (pin 31) and Ring(pin 32) on the Series 5 backplane.NOTEThe Series 5 Total Reach DDS-DP must be usedwith an appropriate DDS-R unit.CONTENTS1.
