There are twomain ways to perform the scanning process using the AXIS7000 together with an application:• Pull Type Scanning - initiated from an application andperformed using the HTTP protocol.• Push Type Scanning - initiated from the AXIS 7000control panel and performed by using the FTP protocolThe document also describes how you can use FTP to obtainand modify a list of available Profiles used for scanning. AProfile defines the resolution, color etc of the scanned image.HTTP and FTPHTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) and FTP (File TransferProtocol) are network protocols used for exchanging files (text, graphic images, sound, video and other files) on a TCP/IPbased network. HTTP is more advanced and rich infunctionality than the more basic FTP.AXIS 7000 Network Document ServerThe AXIS 7000 offers the convenience of allowing end users todistribute and store documents digitally. The AXIS 7000 offersmany options to do business in a more effective and cost-efficient way. With a wide variety of formats (TIFF,JPEG/JFIF, PDF, PCL) and transport methods (SMTP, FTP,LPD, Raw TCP) to choose from, an AXIS 7000 providesincreased value to digital copiers and scanners. Included in itsarchitecture are embedded Web pages. Administrators can usean existing Web browser for configuration and managementpurposes, thus eliminating the need to load extra software.Possible ApplicationsThere are numerous examples of how the Meta Informationfunctionality can be used. Many business processes withdocuments involved can be improved by adding an AXIS 7000integrated with an application server. Examples of applicationsare Knowledge Management Systems, Document ManagementSystems, Imaging Systems, Enterprise Resource PlanningSystems (ERP), Databases and Internet Services. Mostapplication servers connected to a network can be integratedwith the AXIS 7000.Introduction.................................................1HTTP and FTP............................................1AXIS 7000 Network Document Server ......1Possible Applications ..................................1Overview ......................................................2Pull Type Scanning .....................................3Send-to-Web ............................................3Application Example................................3Error handling ..........................................4Scanning Using MFC...............................4Push Type Scanning....................................7Accessing the List of Scanning Profiles .....9References..................................................10Axis Communications ...............................11http://www.axis.comAxis Communications (USA)Tel: (978) 614-2000Fax: (978) 614-2100Axis Communications (Europe)Tel: +46 46 270 18 00Fax: +46 46 13 61 30Axis Communications (Japan)Tel: +81 3 3545 8282Fax: +81 3 3545 8280
