P/N 89180 Rev. A01 June 1997 ®www.dell.comDell ®Latitude®LMDocumentation UpdateThis document updates information contained in theonline Dell Latitude LM User’s Guide and the DellLatitude LM Reference and Troubleshooting Guide.New Microprocessor OptionsThe Dell Latitude LM is now available with a166-megahertz (MHz) or 133-MHz Intel® Pentium ®microprocessor with MMX™ technology.Current application programs not designed specificallyfor MMX technology should have a small improvementin performance when run on a system with a Pentiummicroprocessor with MMX technology. Software writtenspecifically to take advantage of MMX technology(which will be labeled “Designed for Intel MMX”) willhave a greater improvement in performance, dependingon the type of application program. The Pentium microprocessor with MMX technology hastwice the internal cache memory (32 kilobytes [KB]) asthe standard Pentium microprocessor. To see the technical specifications of the new micro-processors, search on “microprocessor specifications” inthe online System User’s Guide. The online guide is inthe Dell Accessories folder or program group.New Memory Module SupportThe Dell Latitude LM now supports 32-megabyte (MB)memory modules. With the 8 MB of standard non-removable memory on the system board and two 4-MBmemory modules standard with every Latitude LM, thecomputer now supports a maximum of 72 MB of systemmemory. The following memory module combinationsare possible:• 24 MB — Install two 8-MB memory modules.• 40 MB — Install two 16-MB memory modules.• 72 MB — Install two 32-MB memory modules.New Memory SpecificationsThe Dell Latitude LM now supports extended-data out(EDO) memory. EDO memory technology improves per-formance over fast-page-mode technology by using ashorter page-mode cycle time while accessing datawithin a single page of memory. See the following tablefor the updated memory specifications.
