PRECAUTIONSR WARNING! NEVER use or charge Icom battery packswith non-Icom transceivers or non-Icom chargers. OnlyIcom battery packs are tested and approved for use withIcom transceivers or charged with Icom chargers. Usingthird-party or counterfeit battery packs or chargers maycause smoke, fire, or cause the battery to burst.R WARNING! NEVER hold the transceiver so that theantenna is very close to, or touching exposed parts of thebody, especially the face or eyes, while transmitting.R WARNING! NEVER operate the transceiver with aheadset or other audio accessories at high volume levels.The continuous high volume operation may cause aringing in your ears. If you experience the ringing, reducethe volume level or discontinue use.CAUTION: DO NOT short the terminals of the batterypack. Shorting may occur if the terminals touch metalobjects such as a key, so be careful when placing thebattery packs (or the transceiver) in bags, and so on.Carry them so that shorting cannot occur with metalobjects. Shorting may damage not only the battery pack,but also the transceiver.CAUTION: DO NOT use harsh solvents such as Benzineor alcohol when cleaning. This could damage theequipment surfaces. If the surface becomes dusty or dirty,wipe it clean with a soft, dry cloth.CAUTION: DO NOT place or leave the transceiver inexcessively dusty environments. This may cause heatgeneration, and the battery may burst, emit smoke orcatch fire.R DANGER! NEVER place or leave battery packs inareas with temperatures above 60°C (140°F). Hightemperature buildup in the battery cells, such as couldoccur near fires or stoves, inside a sun-heated vehicle,or in direct sunlight for long periods of time may causethe battery cells to rupture or catch fire. Excessivetemperatures may also degrade the battery pack’sperformance or shorten the battery cell’s life.R DANGER! NEVER strike or otherwise impact the batterypack. Do not use the battery pack if it has been severelyimpacted or dropped, or if the pack has been subjected toheavy pressure. Battery pack damage may not be visibleon the outside of the case. Even if the surface of thebattery does not show cracks or any other damage, thecells inside the battery may rupture or catch fire.R DANGER! NEVER place battery packs near a fire.Fire or heat may cause them to rupture or explode.Dispose of used battery packs in accordance with localregulations.R DANGER! NEVER let fluid from inside the battery get inyour eyes. This can cause blindness. Rinse your eyes withclean water, without rubbing them, and immediately getmedical treatment from an eye doctor.R WARNING! NEVER put the battery pack in a microwaveoven, high-pressure container, or in an induction heatingcooker. This could cause a fire, overheating, or cause thebattery cells to rupture.R WARNING! NEVER Iet fluid from inside the battery cellscome in contact with your body. If it does, immediatelywash with clean water.CAUTION: DO NOT continue to use the battery pack ifit emits an abnormal odor, heats up, or is discolored ordeformed. If any of these conditions occur, contact yourIcom dealer or distributor.CAUTION: DO NOT expose the battery pack to rain,snow, saltwater, or any other liquids. Do not charge or usea wet pack. If the pack gets wet, be sure to wipe it with aclean dry cloth before using.CAUTION: DO NOT use the battery pack out of thespecified temperature range for the transceiver –25°C ~+55°C (–13°F ~ +131°F): ETS version, –30°C ~ +60°C(–22°F ~ +140°F): TIA version, and the battery itself –20°C~ +60°C (–4°F ~ +140°F). Using the battery out of itsspecified temperature range will reduce its performanceand battery cell’s life. Please note that the specifiedtemperature range of the battery may exceed that of thetransceiver. In such cases, the transceiver may not workproperly because it is out of its operating temperaturerange.CAUTION: DO NOT leave the pack fully charged,completely discharged, or in an excessive temperatureenvironment (above 50°C, 122°F) for an extendedperiod of time. If the battery pack must be left unusedfor a long time, it must be detached from the transceiverafter discharging. You may use the battery pack until theremaining capacity is about half, then keep it safely in acool and dry place at the following temperature range:–20°C ~ +50°C (–4°F ~ +122°F) (within a month)–20°C ~ +40°C (–4°F ~ +104°F) (within three months)–20°C ~ +20°C (–4°F ~ +68°F) (within a year)BE SURE to replace the battery pack with a new oneapproximately five years after manufacturing, even if it stillholds a charge. The material inside the battery cells willbecome weak after a period of time, even with little use.The estimated number of times you can charge the packis between 300 and 500. Even when the pack appears tobe fully charged, the operating time of the transceiver maybecome short when:• Approximately 5 years have passed since the pack wasmanufactured.• The pack has been repeatedly charged.D Charging cautionR DANGER! NEVER charge the battery pack in areaswith extremely high temperatures, such as near fires orstoves, inside a sun-heated vehicle, or in direct sunlight.In such environments, the safety/protection circuit in thebattery will activate, causing the battery to stop charging.R WARNING! NEVER charge the transceiver during alightning storm. It may result in an electric shock, causea fire or damage the transceiver. Always disconnect thepower adapter before a storm.R WARNING! NEVER charge or leave the battery in thebattery charger beyond the specified time for charging. Ifthe battery is not completely charged by the specified time,stop charging and remove the battery from the batterycharger.Continuing to charge the battery beyond the specified timelimit may cause a fire, overheating, or the battery mayrupture.CAUTION: DO NOT insert the transceiver (batteryattached to the transceiver) into the charger if it is wet orsoiled. This could corrode the battery charger terminals ordamage the charger. The charger is not waterproof.CAUTION: DO NOT charge the battery pack outside of thespecified temperature range: 10˚C to 40˚C (50˚F to 104˚F).Icom recommends charging the pack at 25˚C (77˚F). Thepack may heat up or rupture if charged out of the specifiedtemperature range. Additionally, pack’s performance orbattery cell life may be reduced.IMPORTANTThis instruction sheet includes some functions that areusable only when they are preset by your dealer. Thetransceiver may have other functions and operations thatare not described in this instruction sheet. Ask your dealerfor preset function details.SAFETY TRAINING INFORMATIONYour Icom radio generates RFelectromagnetic energy whiletransmitting. This radio is designed forand classified as for “Occupational UseOnly.” This means it must be used onlyduring the course of employment byindividuals aware of the hazards, and theways to minimize such hazards.
