Connect the network'sCategory 5 twisted pair cablewith an RJ-45 connector to thenetwork port on the back ofyour printer.1. If you have a 4650N or 4650 NX printer , you canconnect to an Ethernet network.Mak e sure both your computer and printer areturned off.3. T urn on your printer in the lower left side of the front.It may take up to 90 seconds to warm up. A NetworkSettings page will print.4. There are several w ays to connect your printer to anetwork. The various types of networks, theirconfigurations, and step-by-step connectioninstructions are explained in the SuperScript ColorLaser Network Guide.WINDOWS 3.1x LOCAL SETUP3. Clic k the OK button. This launches theInstaller.R espond to the selections displayed inthe installation dialog boxes.1. Turn on your computer and startWindows. Insert the SuperScript 4650Series CD into the appropriate drive (inthis example we use drive E:).2. In the Windows Program Manager,select Run from the File menu. Windowsdisplays the Run dialog box.In the Run dialog box, click on theBrowse button and navigate toE:\WIN31\SS4650\PS\SETUP.EXE4. When installation is complete the installerwill prompt you to restart Windows.Af ter Windows restarts, the InstallPostScript Driver From PPD dialog boxappears.5. Select NEC SuperScript 4650 PS. Clickon Install. For PCL5e installation, see theUser's Guide.When installation is complete, clic k onClose.WINDOWS 2000 and NT 4.0 LOCAL SETUP2. In the SuperScript 4650 Series Productdialog box, select the printer modelnumber, for example SuperScript 4650Nand click Next.1. Inser t the SuperScript 4650 Series CD intothe CD-ROM drive.The SuperScript 4650 Series InstallerSetup will launch automatically.Clic k Next in the Install dialog box.3. R ead the information screen text todetemine which installation option is bestfor you. Click Next.In the Select Program Folder dialog box,selecting the default NEC SuperScriptfolder is recommended. Click Next.4. Choose a destination location in the nextdialog box and click Next.When prompted, select an installationoption, for example Easy/Local, and clickNext.5. Continue responding to the selectionsdisplayed in the installation dialogboxes.When installation is complete, Windowswill prompt you to restart yourcomputer.WINDOWS 95/98 LOCAL SETUP2. F ollow the instructions displayed on yourcomputer monitor.At the Setup Type window, selectEasy/Local if you do not want a custominstall.1. Inser t the SuperScript 4650 Series CD intothe CD-ROM drive.The SuperScript 4650 Series InstallerSetup will launch automatically.3. F or a more customized install chooseNetwork Client/Custom. With this type ofintallation you can pick and choosespecific driver components.4. Continue responding to the selectionsdisplayed in the installation dialog boxes.When installation is complete, restar tWindows.NOTE: Pure binary data is not supported byPostScript when a computer is locallyconnected (directly connected using aparallel cable) to the printer.See Chapter 4, “Printer Drivers,” of theSuperScript 4650 Series User’s Guide tolearn how to assure communicationbetween the computer and the printer.SUPERSCRIPT SERIES PRINTER DRIVER OPTIONS2. PostScript 3 versus PCL5e Printer DriverUse the PostScript 3 printer driver for colordocuments that contain complex graphic images orextensive page layout formatting. The PostScript 3driver has more options and delivers better graphicprocessing.Use the PCL5e printer driver for monochromedocuments that contain mostly text and limitedformatting. The PCL5e driver handles this type ofdocument well and delivers faster printing than thePostScript 3 driver.NOTE: For color printing, you must use thePostScript 3 printer driver. The PCL5e printer driveris for monochrome printing only.1. Printer Driver OverviewA printer dri ver is software that translates yourcomputer data into a format that the printer can readand print out. You can access the printer driversoftware to change printer and document settings.F or definitions of the different settings available onprinter drivers, see Chapter 1, “Features,” in theSuperScript 4650 Series User’s Guide.F or specific information on setting up the 4650N or4650NX on a network, please refer to theSuperScript Color Laser Network Guide.3. Select the Printer DriverThe SuperScript 4650 Series CD provides printerdrivers for the following printer operating systems:• Windows 95/98• Windows 2000• Windows NT 4.0• Windows 3.1x• Macintosh (see User's Guide for setup)NOTE: A Mac OS must be on an EtherTalk network.You can only install the PostScript 3 printer driver.4. I nstallation OptionsThere are three types of setups available for theSuperScript 4650 Series software:• Easy/Local for local connection• Network Client/Custom for network or customsetup• Network Server/Administrator for network setupNOTE: Network setups can be used with the 4650model If the SuperScript NIC (network interface card)option has been installed.PARALLEL CONNECTION2. Plug the IEEE 1 284 bidirectionalparallel cable into the parallelport on your computer.1. Mak e sure your IBM®compatible computer andSuperScript 4650 Series printerare turned off.4. T urn on your printer in the lowerleft front corner of the printer. 5. A Star tup Pageprints and theOperator Paneldisplays theREADY message.6. T urn on your computer. If youhave Plug and Play and areinstalling locally, Windows willdetect new hardware. If you donot have, or want to use Plugand Play, follow the instructionsbelow. If you want to use Plugand Play, Click Cancel when theSuperScript 4650 Printer screencomes up.3. Plug the otherend of the cableinto the parallelport on the backof your printer.
