Where to Place Your Rock SpeakersThe NX-PRO6522DVC rock speaker is designed to be placeddirectly on the ground in your landscape, on a deck, orpatio. Since it imitates naturally occurring rocks, it blendsin best if placed near other rocks and among bushes, plantsand other landscape settings. When determining placementyou should first consider the ease of running your speakerwire from the amplifier location to each speaker and thesound coverage area you desire from each speaker. (Note:Do not place speakers in a low-lying area where water mayaccumulate since they are not designed to be submersed inwater.) If possible, all speakers should be placed at thesame elevation to obtain the most balanced sound repro-duction. Placing speakers at different heights will alter thespeakers’ combined sound characteristic. Each speakershould cover a 90 degree pie-shaped listening area in frontof the speaker’s face, which is the grille side (See Fig. 2).Speakers should face the listening area and the spacingbetween units should be approximately 10 to 20 feet apart(see Fig. 2). Measure the listening area you want to coverto determine the number of speakers you will need to giveadequate sound coverage. Using the correct number ofspeakers for proper coverage is better than turning the vol-ume of the receiver up beyond its limits, causing distortionand possibly damaging your speakers. If you are using morethan one speaker to cover a large area, we recommend youconsult your receiver/amplifier owner’s manual to determinehow many 8 ohm speakers can be connected to each chan -nel of its outputs. Most receivers are only rated for one 8ohm speaker per channel. If you need to use more than onespeaker, we recommend using an impedance matchingspeaker selector or a impedance matching volume controlsuch as the NX-VM80. Using one of these impedancematching devices will assure the safe operation of youramplifier if multiple pairs of speakers are being used. You may also need to consult your local building and electricalcodes for any applicable requirements.Once you have determined the desired location of your speakers and where anyburied obstructions may exist, you can dig the trench for your wires. Lay yourcables on top of the ground along the path you have determined to each speak-er. If not using conduit, you may dig a narrow trench or slit the ground belowthe grass line along the wire path and tuck the wires in. If you are using conduit, size and cut it to fit the trench first. Then assemble the conduit and associatedparts with PVC cleaner and glue according to the manufacturer’s instructions.Pull the speaker cables through the conduit and lay the conduit into the trench. In either installation style, make sure to leave approximately 2 or 3 feet of extracable per channel under the speaker in case you need to adjust its location later.FIG. 2Congratulations on choosing your NX-PRO6522DVC rock speaker.
