QuickStart GuideC-5000ZOOMPREPARING THE CAMERA FOR USEBefore you begin using your Olympus Digital camera…a. Charging the battery (LI-10B)The battery is not fully charged when purchased. Before use, besure to charge the battery with the specified provided charger (LI-10C).Make sure that the + and - terminals of the battery shown in theillustration on the right are correctly oriented when loading thebattery into the charger.b. Inserting the battery and xD-Picture card c. Attaching the strap and lens cap stringAttach the lens cap string and strap to the strap eyelets on each side of the camera asillustrated. Attaching the strap to the camera makes it easier to handle.1) Make sure the camera is turned off. 2) Slide the battery/card cover in the direction ofA. The lock is released, and the batterycompartment cover opens in the direction of B.Corrector terminalsLithium ion battery(LI-10B)AB3) Orient the battery correctly, and insert it until itis locked by the battery lock.• To remove the battery, slide the battery lock in thedirection of the arrow. As the battery emerges,hold it straight and pull it out completely.4) Face the card the correct way and insert it intothe card slot.• To remove the card, push the card all theway in to unlock it. As it emerges, hold thecard straight and pull it out.5) Close the battery/card cover in direction Cthen slide it in direction D.Battery lockIndex area sideNotchDCTURNING ON THECAMERAThe camera Mode dial is used to select the variousoperation modes.a. Turning the camera ON (SHOOTING MODE)• Remove the lens cap.• Set the mode dial to h. Turn the power switch to theON position. The lens extends and the monitor turns on.• To turn the camera off, turn the power switch to the OFFposition.:To maximize battery life, the Digital camera features apower saving mode in which the camera enters a sleepmode after approximately three (3) minutes of non-use.b. Setting the Date and Time (OPTIONAL)Set the date and time before using the camera for thefirst time. This affects the way image file names arecreated, and will conveniently include this informationwith each picture.• Set the mode dial to h and turn the power switch tothe ON position.• Press e. The top menu is displayed.• Press c to select X.• Use ac to select the date format.• Adjust the date and time in the appropriate fields by usingd to select the field, and ac to set the proper value.Repeat this step until all date/time fields have been set.Note: Time is entered using the 24-hourformat.• Press e to set the date and time and exit the menu.Mode dialPower SwitchTIPPrinted in JapanUNPACKING THE BOX CONTENTSGather your Digital camera and the parts as shown in the illustration.
