Installation, Operating & MaintenanceSpool valves series341-342-345-347-441-541-547 N/PParker Hannifin Manufacturing S.r.l.Via Enrico Fermi, 520060 Gessate (Milano) ITALYTel.: + 39 02 05125.1 – Fax.: + 39 02 95.38.20.51 PN 495979 PB 408003 R5 21.03.2022INTRODUCTIONThis IOM is also subject of a safety manual document to provide necessaryinformation to design, install, verify and maintain a Safety InstrumentedFunction (SIF) utilizing a solenoid valve. It provides necessary requirementsfor meeting the IEC 61508 or IEC 61511 functional safety standards.Installation/Performance InformationAll elements of the appropriate Parker Fluid Control Division (FCD)Installation, Operating & Maintenance sheets (IOM’s) must be followed beforeinstalling, operating and servicing the valve. The valve must be operated and installed in accordance with the operatingparameters specified in the IOM, catalog and/or markings on the nameplate. This includes the electrical and pressure ratings, temperature limits andenvironmental conditions.User must confirm that the valve meets specific performance criteria requiredfor Safety Instrumented Functions.Installations that comply with Functional Safety per IEC 61508 should consultthe FMEDA Report for data to establish specific Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).The valve has met Parker design process requirements of Safety IntegrityLevel (SIL) 3. These are intended to achieve sufficient integrity againstsystematic errors of design by Parker. A Safety Instrumented Function (SIF)designed with this valve must not be used at SIL level higher than thestatement without “prior use” justification by end user or diverse technologyredundancy in the designWhen the final element assembly consists of many components (solenoidvalve, quick exhaust valve, actuator, isolation valve, etc.) the SIL must beverified for the entire assembly using failure rates from all components. Thisanalysis must account for any hardware fault tolerance and architectureconstraints. The valve should be operated using clean, dry air; recommended air qualityper ISA-SP7.3S.Service InformationThe valve should be observed for performance during proof and diagnostictesting. Any indication of reduced performance, such as an increase inleakage rate, response time, or required shifting pressure, will requiremaintenance of the valve. Normal recommended maintenance and serviceinterval is one year or 100,000 cycles; or after a prolonged period(approximately six months) of not cycling. Service conditions may requiremore frequent servicing. The recommended minimum operating interval is one month.Proof testing and diagnostic testing should be performed on intervalsindicated in the FMEDA report to maintain the specified SIL capability. Thepartial Valve Stroke testing of the safety Instrumented Function provides a fullcycle test of the solenoid valve. The test itself must be SIL-2 compliant andperformed at a rate at least ten times faster than expected demand rate. The time to detect a dangerous failure by partial valve stroke testing is 730hoursAny failures affecting functional safety should be reported to the factory. When servicing this valve, the user must refer to the Parker FCD IOM forinstructions; original spare parts must be used when replacing components. When a valve has been serviced, repaired or if any maintenance isperformed, the valve must be evaluated for proper function (proof testing). The mean time to restoration (MTTR) after a safe failure is 8 hours.DESCRIPTION3/2 NC or 5/2 5/3 monostable or bistable spool valves with anodizedaluminium or stainless steel body and threaded 1/8" or 1/4" BSP or NPT portsor NAMUR subbase mounting.Pilot operated with miniature coil with integrated exhaust or standard coil withvarious protection mode compliant with ATEX or pneumatic operated.SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR SAFE USETo ensure the proper function of the device and promote longservice lift, you must comply with the information in theseOperating Instructions and the application conditions andspecification provided in the Data Sheet. Usage of the device in amanner that is contrary to these Operating Instructions or theapplication conditions and specification provided in the DataSheet is improper and will void your warranty. This device servesexclusively as a 3/2 or 5/2 solenoid valve for the media stated to bepermissible on the Data Sheet. Any other use is consideredimproper use. The manufacturer will not be responsible for anyimproper use of the deviceChanges to the product may only be made after consulting the manufactureror his representative. Installation and maintenance of the valve must becarried out by qualified personnel only. Those solenoid spool valves are designed to operate with filtered, dry orlubricated air or neutral gas and within the technical characteristics specifiedon the nameplate and in the Data Sheet.MOUNTINGPrior installing the solenoid valve, depressurize the pipes and cleanthem internally to avoid particles entering the system.(tape sealant, thread compound). The valves may be mounted in any position.Fixing is made with 2 screw M5 (Torque 4 to 5 Nm) provided for model withNAMUR subbase mounting and with 2 screws M4 or M5 according the fixingdirection for threaded models.Pneumatic connection General recommendations for pneumatic connectionConnect pipes for the required functions in accordance with thisdocumentation and the ports markings on the product.Make sure that no foreign matter enters the system.Correctly support and align pipes to prevent mechanical strain on the valve. When tightening, do not use the valve as a lever. Locate wrenches as closeas possible to connection point. To avoid damage to the equipment, DONOT OVERTIGHTEN pipe connections. Connection of the spool valve- Models with subbase mounting NAMUR 4mm (Flow 600Nl/mn)Pressure inlet at port 1 G or NPT 1/4". Pressure outlet at port 2 and 4 onsubbase. Exhaust at ports 3 and 5 G or NPT 1/8".- Models with subbase mounting NAMUR 8mm (Flow 1400Nl/mn)Pressure inlet at port 1 G or NPT 1/4". Pressure outlet at port 2 and 4 onsubbase. Exhaust at ports 3 and 5 G or NPT 1/4".- Models with treaded ports 4mm (Flow 600Nl/mn)Pressure inlet at port 1 G or NPT 1/8". Pressure outlet at port 2 and 4 G orNPT 1/8"..
