If the code storeddoes not give maximum functionality, try another code.Brand Code SearchThe Brand Code Search goes through only the codes for one ofthe select brands listed in the accompanying code list. If yourbrand of device is listed, this search can be very quick and easy.TIPS: Each device key is associated with a type of device—theTV is preset to search for TVs, SAT•CBL•STREAM for satellitereceivers, cable boxes, digital TV converters, or streamingmedia players and DVD•VCR for VCRs or DVD players.The POWER key serves as an indicator light duringprogramming, giving you feedback at each stage of theprocess.To exit without saving a new code at any point in the BrandCode Search, press the GO BACK key.1. If the code storeddoes not give maximum functionality, try another code.Code RetrievalOnce you’ve programmed the remote to control your devices,you may want to record the codes for future reference. Ifyou used the Direct Code Entry method, this is easy. Justfind the codes you entered and make a note of them in theboxes below. If you used one of the Code Search methods toprogram your remote or if you used the Direct Entry methodbut don’t remember the code, you will need to retrieve eachdevice’s five-digit code. Retrieving the actual code and writingit down will save you time if you ever need to program theremote again (e.g., if programming is lost when you changethe batteries). If the codes are recorded, you can use theDirect Entry method to reprogram your remote to control yourdevices, which is quick and easy.1. Press and hold the devicekey (TV, SAT•CBL•STREAM,DVD•VCR) whose code youwish to retrieve. The POWERkey turns on. Keep pressingthe device key.IMPORTANTBecause this remote controls more than one device, youmust first “tell” the remote which device you wish tooperate. That means, if you wish to operate your TV, youmust first press the TV key to put the remote in the TVMode. The remote stays in that device mode until youpress a different device key. For example, if your remote isin TV Mode and you want to operate the DVD player, youmust press the DVD•VCR key to change device modes.Problem: The remote does not operate your device.• Make sure the remote is in the correct mode by pressing thecorresponding device key (TV, SAT•CBL•STREAM, DVD•VCR).This tells the remote which device to operate.• Remove any obstacles between the remote and the device.Make sure you’re aiming the remote at the device’s IR sensor.• Make sure the batteries are fresh and are properly installed.Replace the batteries with two new AA batteries, if necessary(see the Battery Installation section).Problem: The remote can’t be programmed to operateyour device.• If you are testing the remote while programming it, you may betoo far away from the device or at a wrong angle. There mustbe an unobstructed path between the remote and the IR sensoron the device. Move closer and make sure you point the remoteat the device you’re trying to control.• If you’re using the Direct Entry programming method to enterthe codes for your brand and the unit is still not functioningproperly, try the auto, brand, or manual search method.• To control combo units, like TV/VCRs or TV/DVDs, you mustprogram the individual corresponding device keys to controleach part of the combo unit. You can turn backlight illumination on bypressing the LIGHT key ( ). Backlighting stays on as long askeys are being pressed and turns off five seconds after the lastkeypress.2. While holding the device key down, press and hold theINFO-OPTIONS key. The POWER key turns off. Afterholding down both keys for three seconds, the POWERkey turns back on.3. Release both keys. If the codethat has been stored controls the majority of the device’sfunctions, programming is complete. If the code storeddoes not give maximum functionality, try another code.4. Wait until the POWER key comes on and stays on. Thenrelease both keys.5. Point the remote directly at thefront panel of the device you wantto control. Press PLAY on theremote and wait 5 seconds. Theremote is testing a batch of 10codes on your device.Did your device turn off?YES: Go to step 6.NO: Press PLAY again. The remote tests the next batch of10 codes.Keep pressing PLAY every 5 seconds until your device turnsoff.6. When your device turns off, pressthe REVERSE key on the remoteand wait at least 2 seconds. Theremote tries the last of the previousten codes.Did your device turn on?YES: Press the STOP key. You’redone! You’ve programmed thisdevice key.NO: Press REVERSE again. The remote tests the nextcode in the batch.Keep pressing REVERSE every 2 seconds until your deviceturns back on.
