Manual-1OPERATORS MANUAL ME 60SmicroGRAPHIC EQUALIZERME 60S ConnectionWhen first connecting the ME 60S to other components, leavethe POWER switch off until the very last. This gives you a chanceto make mistakes and correct them without damaging yourfragile speakers, ears and nerves.INPUTSThe ¼" and XLR Inputs are wired in parallel and are activelybalanced. Each works equally well. Choose strictly from arequired hardware point-of-view. The XLR wiring conventionadheres to American, British and International standards of pin2 or tip being hot, pin 3 or ring being return, and pin 1 or sleevebeing shield. It is not necessary to short any inputs to ground—it doesn’t hurt, it’s just not necessary. Use pin 1, or the shell, forshield ground. Unbalanced operation involves using only pin 2or tip as signal, and pin 1 or sleeve as shield and ground.OUTPUTSThe Outputs mimic the Inputs. Balanced output requires usingpin 2 or tip, and pin 3 or ring for the signal. It does not requirepin 1 or shield. The signal exists differentially between the twobalanced leads; ground is not involved. For hum-free systemsground is used only for shielding.EXPANDINGExpanding and/or daisychaining the Inputs and Outputs nor-mally uses the ¼" jacks. Two parallel Input connectors allowsdriving a second signal processor or amplifier without specialcabling.SIGNAL LEVELSSignal levels from -10 dBV to +4 dBu are considered normaland within range (at least 20 dB of headroom exists above theselevels). Do not directly connect microphones into the ME 60S.These require a separate mic preamp.Quick StartOkay, know-it-all. So you don’t need to read the manual. Well do your mother a favor and just read this section and you don’t have toread anything else. Ever.Hook-up is intuitive. Just follow the silkscreened instructions on the rear of the unit. All three Inputs are wired in parallel (theydo not sum); and all three Outputs are wired in parallel. Use any one Input and any or all Outputs. Polarity convention is per IEC/ANSI/AES standards of pin 2 positive, pin 3 negative and pin 1 shield. The ME 60S does not invert the signal.Set the LOW and HIGH CUT FILTER controls as necessary to restrict bandwidth. Full frequency response results from posi-tioning them all the way to the bottom.Anyone familiar with other graphic equalizers finds the ME 60S just as familiar. Setting curves is as easy as it is on all Ranegraphics thanks to our innovative constant-Q circuitry. If you feel you want more information on setting up your curves, please seethe back page. There, now was that so bad?WEAR PARTS This product contains no wear parts.10401515030k40k10k5k250 3k10401515030k40k10k5k250 3k06•3•••3606•3•••3610024861002486±6±6ME 60SMICROGRAPHICEQUALIZERCHANNEL 2CHANNEL 1HIGHLOWHIGHLOWCUT FILTERSCUT FILTERS40031.525 40 6350 10080 160125 250200 315 12.5k1k630500 800 1.6k1.25k 2k 3.15k2.5k 5k4k 8k6.3k 10k 20k16k40031.525 40 6350 10080 160125 250200 315 12.5k1k630500 800 1.6k1.25k 2k 3.15k2.5k 5k4k 8k6.3k 10k 20k16kOL LEVEL RANGEBYPASSOL LEVEL RANGEBYPASS±12±12012•6•••612012•6•••612POWER
