A-4 BRIDGING AND ROUTINGFigure A-1 Simple Remote BridgingThe OfficeConnect Remote uses FastConnect, its ownprotocol, to ensure the most efficient connectionwith other OfficeConnect Remote units. However, ifyou are connecting to a different type ofbridge/router the standard PPP communicationsprotocol is required to establish the link. You canconfigure outgoing calls to use either FastConnector PPP as required. The ISDN port on theOfficeConnect Remote autosenses the protocolbeing used on incoming calls and switches to theprotocol necessary for that connection. If you are using ISDN to connect to different networks, the two B channels can be used independently toconnect to different networks at the same time.Building a Larger NetworkLarge networks of interconnected LANs can beestablished by using multiple bridges as illustratedin Figure A-2.The bridges build up their address tables. If thedestination unit is not registered as being accessedvia the bridge’s LAN interface, the frame will not beplaced on LAN A. Therefore, frames passing betweenLAN B and LANs C or D will not impact the overallperformance of the LAN.Rc.bk : RCAPPA.FRM Page 4 Thursday, July 10, 1997 9:53 AM
