Manually Configuring IP Information 35ManuallyConfiguring IPInformationYou can manually configure the Switch IP information in the followingway:■ Connecting to the console port — connect a workstation using aconsole cable to the console port of the Switch. You can thenmanually enter IP information using the command line interface (CLI).Connecting to theConsole PortTo set up your Switch manually you can alternatively make a connectionto the console port (this example describes a local connection to theconsole port, rather than a remote one via a modem). You can do thiswhilst the Switch is offline, that is, before you connect the Switch to anetwork, or whilst the Switch is online, that is, connected to a network.Pre-requisites■ A workstation with terminal emulation software installed, such asMicrosoft Hyperterminal. This software allows you to communicatewith the Switch via the console port directly, or through a modem.■ Documentation supplied with the terminal emulation software.■ A suitable cable:■ An RJ-45 to DB9 converter cable.■ A standard null modem cable — if you are connecting directly tothe console port, or■ A standard modem cable — if you are connecting to the consoleport using a modem.You can find pin-out diagrams for both cables in Appendix B on page 63.■ You need to have the following so that you can manually set up theSwitch with IP information:■ IP address■ subnet mask■ default gatewayDUA1745-0AAA02.book Page 35 Monday, August 9, 2004 11:51 AM
