8.3 Sealed lead batteriesThe sealed lead 12 V / 5 Ah batteries are located within the device's housingshould be recharged after each use.The batteries are subjects to a so-called self-discharge. Therefore, youshould connect them to the charger whenever possible. Due to the fact thatthey automatically goes into charge retention as soon as they are fully char-ged, an overcharge is impossible. If your batteries does not possess their full capacity yet, the reason may bethat new batteries reaches their full capacity only after several char-ging/discharging cycles. If fully charged batteries discharge more quickly as before, they are probablyused up. In such case, please have your authorized dealer check and replacethem, if necessary. These batteries are sealed, maintenance free, rechargeable and of top quali-ty. They are considered as safe as dry cells and admitted for air travel accor-ding to DOT and IATA.F If the escalino is at a standstill for some time, please connect it to thecharger to retain the charge. This does not damage the sealed leadacid batteries, on the contrary, it increases their durability. Please avoid a total discharge: The durability of sealed lead acid batteriesdepends primarily on the charge/discharge cycle. For instance, you maydischarge them partially more than 750 times and use up the entire capacitymore than 200 times, if you avoid a total discharge entirely.A total discharge does not only lead to a loss of the batteries’ capacity, butalso shortens their durability. Thus, do avoid a total discharge, by rechargingthe batteries whenever possible!F Charging your batteries is taking good care of them.F Always charge your batteries with the AAT Alber AntriebstechnikgGmbH charger delivered with your escalino. This particular chargerautomatically turns off when the batteries are fully charged keepingthem from being overcharged. If fully charged batteries run empty faster as usual, then they are probablyused up. In such case please have them checked and, if nessesary, replacedby AAT Alber Antriebstechnik or its representative.Damaged batteries you can turn in at designated places for proper recycling. You may also return them to you authorized AAT representative.escalino32
