Introduction to the guide 9Commissioning the drive for a motor in a hazardous areaCommission the drive according to the requirements and limitations set by the application, the instructions of the motor manufacturer, drive Firmware manual and local laws andregulations. The certificate of the Ex motor typically requires that you set a minimum limit for the outputswitching frequency of the drive. Make sure that the Ex motor is operated above theminimum output switching frequency specified by the motor manufacturer. See sectionSwitching frequency limitation on page 13.Compliance with the European ATEX ProductDirective 2014/34/EU (94/9/EC)The system integrator is responsible for the compliance of the complete thermal motorprotection circuit with the European ATEX Product Directive 2014/34/EU (previously 94/9/EC). Make sure that the:• drive is equipped with the ATEX-certified Safe disconnection function (+option +Q971)• motor thermal protection relay is ATEX-compliant• motor thermal protection circuit is wired according to the instructions given in thisguide and in the motor manual and according to the installation requirements of therelevant standard(s) of EN/IEC 60079 series.ContentsThis guide contains the following chapters:• Introduction to the guide introduces this guide.• Implementing a Safe disconnection function gives instructions for implementing anATEX-compliant motor thermal protection circuit using the ATEX-certified Safedisconnection function (option +Q971) of the drive/inverter module.• Technical data contains a list of related standards and directives, safety data and thedrive ATEX certificates and Declaration of Conformity documents.Related documentsSee inside of the front cover for List of related manuals.Terms and abbreviationsThe abbreviations used in this manual are listed below.Abbreviation Description ReferenceATEX Directives 2014/34/EU (previously 94/9/EC) and 1999/92/EC refers to the ATEX directives (from “ATmosphèresEXplosibles”).CM-MSS ABB thermistor motor protection relay.Ex An IEC term used in the context of explosive atmospheres.
