30 EBS852 / EBS862 ELECTRONIC UNIT | OI/EBS852/EBS862/EX-EN REV. B8 Commissioning and operationNoteIt is imperative that you observe the operating instruction of thecorresponding actuator for the commissioning of the electronicunit!NoteThe operating range of the actuator is not factory-set.Set up the mechanical end stops in accordance with theoperating instruction for the relevant actuator. If there is a chance that safe operation is no longer possible, take the device out of operation and secure it againstunintended startup.General informationThe basic settings ‘Define end positions’ and ‘Initial diagnosis’can be configured via the commissioning and service field on theelectronic unit. The commissioning and service field is used to adjust theactuator to the working area and set the direction of actionwithout using a PC.The following configuration types are available for advancedadjustment of the actuator and its parameterization:• With DTMConfiguration can be performed within an FDT frameapplication that is approved for use with the DTM.• With EDDConfiguration can be performed within an EDD frameapplication that is approved for use with the EDD.Communication with the electronic unit is optionally donethrough the RS 232 interface on the commissioning and servicefield or in field electronic units through digital communicationwith HART® or PROFIBUS®.NoteFor detailed information on the parameterization of theactuator, consult the associated configuration andparameterization instruction.Engineering Software ECOM688 and ECOM700Using the ECOM688 / ECOM700 engineering software, the usercan read out, store, and write back the actuator-related datafrom the electronic unit of a Contrac control actuator.Depending on the software version of the electronic unit, twodifferent engineering software versions are available.• Contrac electronic units with software version ≥ 2.00require ECOM700.• Contrac electronic units with software version < 2.00require ECOM688.Data cannot be read or written with an incorrect ECOM version.NoteFor detailed information, observe the corresponding operatinginstruction of the ECOM688 / ECOM700 Engineering Software.Checks prior to commissioningBefore powering up the power supplyBefore switching on the power supply and commissioning thedevice, check the following points:• Correct wiring (see Electrical connections on page 19).• Close all housing covers and terminal compartments.• Do not open the housing cover or terminal compartmentsduring operation!• The actuator must have been installed in accordance withthe corresponding operating instruction. The workingzone and mechanical end stops must have been adjusted.• Make sure that there is no danger of injury for personsdue to movement of the actuator!1. Switch on the power supply. After powering up the power supplyCheck the following items after powering up the power supply:• The write protection switch on the commissioning andservice field is in the ‘OFF’ position.• The electronic unit is in the ‘MAN’ operating mode; thereis no +24 V signal on binary input 1.• No error (if an error is pending, both LEDs on thecommissioning and service field will flash alternately at4 Hz).2. Perform parameterization and basic settings on theelectronic unit.
