31 CENELEC/ATEX APPROVED FLOWMETERS…An example of a typical label is shown below:Cenelec/ATEX approved MagMaster Flowmetersfor hazardous area operation are only available inthe remote version. The hazardous area MagMaster flowmetersensors can be installed in locations defined asCENELEC/ATEX approved Zone 1 or Zone 2: cat II2 (1) EEx e ia m IIC T4 (–20ºC ≤ T a ≤ +60°C).Higher temperature versions available dependingon the lining and construction. The inside of the pipe is certified to Zone 0.The transmitter must be mounted in the safe area. The approval is valid for the following countries:Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France,Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway,Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and theUnited Kingdom, as a fully harmonised EuropeanApproval which the member countries haveagreed to accept. The sensors provide complete protection asdefined without the need to provide external zenerbarriers.Special interconnecting cables are not required forfitting the units, as the standard MagMaster cablesare suitable for this purpose. However, a plantbonding conductor is required to comply withapproval.1.2 DescriptionThe hazardous area approved MagMaster is innearly all respects identical to the nonhazardousversion. The only significant difference is that thesensor termination box is larger, containing amultiple zener barrier assembly, the operation ofwhich is transparent in normal use.1.3 SpecificationThis is identical to the nonhazardous area versionsexcept that the maximum ambient and processtemperatures may be lower. Note that the T4(Tamb max = 60°C ) also covers T1, T2, and T3classifications.1.4 InstallationInstallation of a Hazardous Area MagMaster issimilar to that of the standard version describedelsewhere in this manual, but it is essential to payattention to the following points:Transmitter – The MagMaster transmitter must belocated in the safe area. It must be connected to asingle phase supply rated at no more that 240volts. This supply must have an isolator and befused with an HRC fuse not exceeding 30 Ampsrating.(HRC – HBC high rupture/breaking capacity)Sensor Cable – Standard or armoured MagMastersensor cable may be used. These cables may alsobe run in conduit. The cable between the remoteSensor and the Transmitter must only be thatsupplied for the purpose by ABB. Other types ofcable may not be substituted, even for part runs.Where joints between cables have to be made(e.g. for repairs, or for junctions in panels etc.) useonly the ABB junction box (see Accessories andSpares section). Where joints are to be made inhazardous areas, the junction box must beapproved for this duty.Glands – Glands as supplied are suitable;substitute glands or conduit fittings must conformto Ex ‘e’ requirements (70°C ) and be suitable forthe cable being used.Earthing – Connect a plant bonding conductor tothe anti-rotation device fitted to the sensor. To comply with approval requirements, the plantbonding conductor or PEC (Protective earthconductor/potential equalising conductor) mustbe 4mm 2 or greater, connect to the plant safetyearth (earth mat) and provide less than 1 ohm toearth.ABB LimitedStonehouse, Glos.
