ABB 13Motor ProtectionREM615 ANSIProduct Version 2.01MAC251744 -PG Rev. AIssued: 03.01.201018. CommunicationThe relay supports three different communicationprotocols: IEC 61850 , DNP3.0 Level 2+ andModbus®. Operational information and controlsare available through these protocols. Uniquecommunication functionality, for example, peer-to-peer communication between relays is available via theIEC 61850 communication protocol. The IEC 61850 communication implementationsupports all monitoring and control functions.Additionally, parameter setting and disturbance filerecords can be accessed using the IEC 61850-8-1protocol. Further, the relay can send and receivebinary signals from other relays (peer-to-peercommunication) using the IEC61850-8-1 GOOSEprofile, where the highest performance class with atotal transmission time of 3 ms is supported. The relaycan simultaneously report to five diff erent clients -maximum fi ve IEC 61850-8-1 clients, maximum fi veModbus clients and maximum one DNP3.0 Level 2+client with total number not exceeding five. All communication connectors, except for the frontRJ45 connector, are located in the back of the uniton the leftmost card slot. This slot remains in thecase when the drawout unit is removed eliminatingthe need to disconnect communication connections. The relay can be connected to an Ethernet-basedcommunications network via a copper RJ45 (100BaseTX) or fiberoptic LC (100Base FX) connector orserial network via the RS-485 option that provides one4-wire or two 2-wire ports.Modbus over TCP/IP is supported with the Ethernetcommunications option selected. Besides standardModbus functionality such as status and controloperations, the relay supports retrieval of time-stampedevents, uploading of disturbance files and storing of thelatest fault records. For the Modbus TCP connection,a maximum of , five clients can be connected to therelay simultaneously.DNP3.0 Level 2+ over TCP/IP is also supported withthe Ethernet communications card option. Anotherserial communications option offers programmableRS-232 or RS-485 and fiber-optic (ST) serial ports.Status and control, including breaker trip/closecontrol, operations are supported in the Level 2+implementation.Optional serial (RS-232/RS-485) communicationinterfaces are available that support user programmableprotocols of DNP3.0 Level 2+ and Modbus RTU/ASCII. All serial communication card options includean Ethernet communications port and an IRIG-Bport for dedicated time synchronization networkconnections. The relay supports the time synchronization with atime-stamping resolution of +/-1 ms:Ethernet based:• SNTP (primary and secondary server support)Table 5.
