ControlThe protection and control relay offers status andcontrol of one recloser/circuit breaker with dedi-cated push-buttons on the front panel local humanmachine interface (LHMI) for opening and closingof that recloser/breaker.Further, the large graphical LCD of the protectionand control relay’s HMI includes a single line dia-gram (SLD) with position indication for the relevantrecloser/circuit breaker. Interlocking schemes re-quired by the application are configured using thesignal matrix or the application configuration fea-ture of PCM600. The Protection and control relayalso incorporates a synchro-check function to en-sure that the voltage, phase angle and frequency oneither side of an open recloser/circuit breaker sat-isfy the conditions for safe interconnection of twonetworks.Flexible remote breaker control of select-be-fore-trip (SBO) or direct trip is also available witheach of the supported DNP3.0 Level 2+, Modbus,IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104, PG&E 2179 andIEC 61850 communication protocols. Interlockingschemes required by the application are configuredwith Signal Matrix Tool (SMT) or Application Con-figuration Tool (ACT) in PCM600 .7. MeasurementsThe protection and control relay continuously mea-sures the phase currents, the sequence compo-nents of the currents and the residual current . Inaddition, the relay calculates the demand phasecurrents over a user-selectable pre-set time frame, and the phase unbalance value as a ratio betweenthe negative sequence and positive sequence cur-rents. Phase, ground and sequence voltage mea-surements plus power, energy, frequency, andpower factor measurements are included. The val-ues measured can be accessed locally via the userinterface on the protection and control relay frontpanel or remotely via the communication interfaceof the relay. The values can also be accessed locallyor remotely using the web browser based user in-terface.8. Digital fault recorderThe protection and control relay is provided with adigital fault recorder (DFR) featuring up to twelveanalog and 64 binary signal channels. The analogchannels record either the waveform or the trend ofthe currents and voltages measured. The analog channels can be set to trigger the re-cording function when the measured value falls be-low or exceeds the set values. The binary signalchannels can be set to start a recording on the ris-ing or the falling edge of the binary signal or both.By default, the binary channels are set to record ex-ternal or internal relay signals, e.g. the pickup ortrip signals of the relay stages, or external blockingor control signals. Binary relay signals such as aprotection pickup or trip signal, or an external relaycontrol signal over a binary input can be set to trig-ger the recording. Phase and ground voltage wave-forms would be available for inclusion in each digi-tal recording. The recorded information is stored ina non-volatile memory and can be uploaded forsubsequent fault analysis.9. Event recorderThe protection and control relay includes a se-quence of events recorder (SER) that logs import-ant event activity. The non-volatile memory retainsits data also in case the relay temporarily loses itsauxiliary supply. The event log facilitates detailedpre and post-fault analyses of feeder faults and dis-turbances.To collect sequence of events (SER) information, the relay incorporates a memory with a capacity ofstoring 512 event codes with associated date andtime stamps. The event log facilitates detailed pre-and post-fault analyses of feeder faults and distur-bances. The SER information can be accessed lo-cally via the user interface on the relay front panelor remotely via the communication interface of therelay. The information can further be accessed, ei-ther locally or remotely, using the web-browserbased user interface.10. Fault recorderThe protection and control relay has the capacity tostore the records of 32 fault events. The records en-able the user to analyze the most recent power sys-tem events. Each record includes the current, volt-age and angle values, the Pickup times of theprotection elements, time stamp, etc. The fault re-cording can be triggered by the pickup signal or thetrip signal of a protection elements, or by both. Theavailable measurement modes include DFT (Dis-crete Fourier Transform), RMS (Root-mean-square)and peak-to-peak.All records are stored in a nonvolatile memory. In addition, the maximum demand phase currentswith date and time stamp are separately stored asrecorded data. All 32 records are remotely retriev-able via DNP3.0 Level 2+, IEC 60870-5-101, IEC60870-5-104, and Modbus protocols and the 32most recent fault records are retrievable and view-able using the front panel HMI, WMHI and PCM600interfaces using the front panel HMI, web basedWHMI and PCM600 interfaces. |
