Optical fibers have Transmission (Tx) and Reception (Rx) connectors, and they should beattached to the Tx and Rx connectors on the SLM module (Tx cable to Rx connector, Rx cable toTx connector). Connectors are usually color coded: connect blue or dark grey cable connectorsto blue or dark grey (receive) back-side connectors. Connect black or grey cable connectors toblack or grey (transmit) back-side connectors.Fiber-optical cables are very sensitive to handling. Do not bend too sharply. Theminimum curvature radius is 15 cm for plastic fiber cables and 25 cm for glassfiber cables. If cable straps are used to fix the cables, apply them with a loosefit.Always hold the connector, never the cable, when connecting or disconnectingoptical fibers. Do not twist, pull or bend the fiber. Invisible damage mayincrease fiber attenuation making communication impossible.RJ45 LAN ports of the IED are PELV or SELV circuits. The connected remote circuit must be PELV or SELV circuits.Ensure that the clearance distance accordance with national regulations, forthe highest voltage that may be present within the cabinet. This can be done byensuring that the LAN cables are mounted and fixed with sufficient distance toall HLV circuits.During transportation of a relay mounted in a cubicle, the optical fibers mustbe disconnected from the OEM ports.Strictly follow the instructions from the manufacturer for specific types ofoptical cables/connectors.When utilizing galvanic RJ45 SFP ports for the IEDs network connection(s), theinstallation shall be done in such way that the electrical power distributionenvironment follows Environment A as specified in IEEE 802.3. In other words, the LAN or LAN segments, with all its associated interconnected equipment, isentirely contained within a single low-voltage power distribution system andwithin a single building.6.2.2 Connecting remote communication interfaces LDCM M12637-2 v6The Line Data Communication Module (LDCM) (see Figure 14) is used for transferring binaryand analog signal data between IEDs in different protection schemes on the IEEE/ANSI C37.94protocol.When LDCM is used for binary signal exchange between IEDs in the same station or evenwithin the same panel, the fiber optic cables can be quite short (1-2 meters). With such aninstallation it is important to set the LDCM parameterOptoPower =LowPower.1MRK 514 027-UEN D Section 6Connecting650 series 41Installation manual© Copyright 2017 ABB. All rights reserved
