Compressed Air Dryer Chapter 2: Functional Description 10 of 312-5 Safety FeaturesThis section includes information on safety devices and procedures that are inherent to the 10cfm compressed air dryer. This manual is not intended to supersede or alter safety standardsestablished by the user of this equipment. Instead, the material contained in this section isrecommended to supplement these procedures in order to provide a safer workingenvironment.Safety Circuit StandardsSafety circuits used in industrial systems protect the operator and maintenance personnelfrom dangerous energy. They also provide a means of locking out or isolating the energy forservicing equipment.Various agencies have contributed to the establishment of safety standards that apply to thedesign and manufacture of automated equipment. The Occupational Safety and HealthAdministration (OSHA) and the Joint Industrial Council (JIC) are just a few of theorganizations that have joined with the plastics industry to develop safety standards.Every effort has been made to incorporate these standards into the design of the dryer;however, it is the responsibility of the personnel operating and maintaining the equipment tofamiliarize themselves with the safety procedures and the proper use of any safety devices.High Temperature Safety SystemA high temperature safety system will disable the dryer if the process temperature is too hot.The high temperature safety is designed so that if it fails, the failure causes a “safe”condition, and the dryer will not run. The compressed air continues flowing to cool down thesystem.Airflow monitoring Safety SystemIf the airflow source to the compressed air dryer is below 35 PSI, the unit will shut down andnot run. This is an indication that there is not enough pressure and flow for proper operationof the unit.Line Cord Plug (115/1/60 units only)The line cord plug allows the operator or maintenance personnel to unplug the dryer from itspower source and tag it out. This plug may be tagged with any number of approved electricallockout tags. These tags are available at most electrical supply stores. Always disconnectpower before servicing or moving this unit.DANGER! At no time should anyone remove the lockout or reconnect the twist plug, other than the person who installed the lockout or who unplugged the twistplug.2-6 Drying Hopper Air TrapRefer to the drying hopper Operation and Installation manual for proper operation of thedrying hopper.
