Thank you for choosing an ADC® AdtempTM digital stick thermometer. Your newthermometer is designed to provide accurate temperature measurements. Adtemp thermometersmeet or exceed all relevant international performance standards.Device Description and Intended UseThis device is intended to measure human body temperature in children and adults. It has adigital display and can be used in a professional or household environment.Parts and AssemblySymbol DefinitionsThe following symbols are associated with your thermometer.General WarningsA warning statement in this manual identifies a condition or practice which, if notcorrected or discontinued immediately, could lead to patient injury, illness, or death.WARNING: This instrument is designed for oral, rectal, or axillary use only.WARNING: High prolonged fever requires medical attention, especially for young children.Please contact your physician.WARNING: Keep out of reach of unsupervised children. Components may be harmful if swallowed.WARNING: Stop using the thermometer if it operates erratically or if the display malfunctions.WARNING: Avoid taking temperature for 15 minutes after physical exercise, bathing, dining, ordrinking hot or cold beverages.WARNING: Allow the thermometer to warm naturally to room temperature before using.Performance may be affected if operated or stored outside stated temperature and humidity ranges orif the patient's temperature is below the ambient (room) temperature.WARNING: After using, clean the unit by wiping it with a dry cloth and disinfect the probe withisopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. See cleaning instructions for additional details.CAUTION: Keep thermometer away from direct sunlight, moisture, extreme temperatures, or dust.CAUTION: Do not boil, bite, bend, drop, or disassemble the thermometer.CAUTION: Do not open the unit except to replace the battery.CAUTION: Dispose of batteries in accordance with locally applicable regulations, not with domestic waste.CAUTION: Do not autoclave or immerse thermometer in water or any other liquid. The unit is notwaterproof. Please note the cleaning procedures described in this manual.How to Use1. Disinfect the probe with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol before using.2. We recommend using probe covers with all digital stick thermometers. If using, placecover over tip of unit.3. Wait at least 1 minute between consecutive measurements for the unit to readjust toroom temperature.4. Place the probe in the appropriate position for your measurement site (see EnsuringAccurate Temperature Measurement below).Switching Temperature Modes1. With the thermometer off, press the mode button and the multifunction button at thesame time until you see the scale alternate.2. Release both buttons and wait 5 seconds. The correct scale and the mode icon willappear, indicating the unit is ready to measure.Ensuring Accurate Temperature MeasurementWe recommend using probe covers (Figure 1)with all digital stick thermometers.Operating the 2-second digital thermometer:For first use: Remove the protective case from probe tip and the LCD protective sticker.1. Press and release the multifunction button, a short beep will follow.Wait 2 seconds for the unit to get ready. During these2 seconds the following sequence will be displayedon the LCD:A: All display icons will appear.B: The display will show last measurement.C: The hourglass will disappear and the displaywill show the scale and mode icons. This willindicate the thermometer is now ready for measurement.2. Select your preferred measurement location(oral/rectal/underarm)by using the Mode button.3. Place the probe tip at the desired location.The temperature reading will be displayed within 2 seconds. One long beep will indicate thatthe measurement is completed. If you want to take another measurement, turn off thethermometer and wait 1 minute between consecutive measurements to allow the unit toreadjust to room temperature.Oral Use (for children 4 years and older): Place theprobe well under the patient’s tongue (Figure 2). Keepmouth closed while thermometer is reading. The peaktemperature should be reached in approximately 2 sec-onds.
