The NetVanta 1224R PoE(Power over Ethernet) and 1224STR PoE areunique, all-in-one access platforms that combinea 24 port Ethernet switch, an IP access router, amodular WAN interface with built-in DSU/CSU,a stateful inspection firewall, and the option forVirtual Private networking (VPN), all in a single1U chassis. The 1224R PoE and STR PoE provide24-port Ethernet and Fast Ethernet switching, withthe STR PoE offering two extra 1000Base-T/SFPGigabit ports for uplink or stacking capability.Modular HardwareA single WAN access slot in the back of theNetVanta chassis supports a variety of NetworkInterface Modules (NIMs) including ADSL,56/64k, T1/FT1, T1/FT1 with DSX-1, E1/FE1,E1/FE1 with G.703, Dual T1, or a serial interface. The optional Analog or ISDN BRI Dial BackupModules (DIMs) support a solid business con-tinuity plan by dialing around a failed circuit toany PPP-compliant device. The ADSL NIM mayalso be used for broadband backup, allowingfor larger bandwidth applications and fasterdata rates.Standard-based ProtocolsBased on the ADTRAN Operating System (AOS),these devices offer support for 802.1Q VirtualLANs (VLANs), Port-based switching featuresinclude Broadcast Storm Control, 802.1D and802.1w Spanning/Rapid Spanning Tree, LinkAggregation, Port Mirroring, and GVRP. LinkLayer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) auto-discoversneighboring Ethernet devices, simplifyingintegration into multi-vendor environments. In addition the integral IP router provides cost-effective Internet access, corporate Frame Relayor point-to-point connectivity using standardrouting protocols such as BGP, OSPF and RIP.Power over EthernetThe NetVanta 1224R PoE and 1224STR PoEplatforms provide standards-based 802.3afPoE functionality for powering IP phones,Wireless Access Points (WAPs), or otherdevices requiring LAN power. The productssupport up to 15.4 watts per port or370 watts total.SecurityRest assured, with the NetVanta 1224R PoE andSTR PoE your network is protected. Each plat-form comes standard with a stateful inspectionfirewall to stop intruders and common Denialof Service (DoS) attacks. These products alsooffer a variety of data security features includ-ing MAC-based port security, multilevel userpasswords, Secure Shell (SSH) and Secure SocketLayer (SSL) for encrypted user login, and AccessAuthentication and Authorization (AAA) withRADIUS, RSA SecurID, or TACACS+. For addedsecurity, these platforms offer a VPN upgradesupporting up to 500 IPSec tunnels using DES,3DES or AES encryption.Quality of Service (QoS)The NetVanta switch-routers support QoS toprioritize mission critical traffic and controlnetwork congestion at various layers of the OSImodel. On the LAN, the NetVanta 1000 Seriesoffers 802.1p and DiffServ Class of Service(CoS). To assign priority to traffic, WeightedRound Robin and Strict Priority Queuing is usedwith four egress queues per port. For the WAN,DiffServ marking, Low Latency Queuing, andWeighted Fair Queuing provide priority for IPpackets routed over the WAN. Together thesefeatures offer a powerful end-to-end QoS story.VoIP ReadyIn combination with the QoS features, a special-ized SIP Application Layer Gateway (ALG) allowsSIP traffic to traverse NAT-enabled firewalls. For an enterprise network, this interoperabilityallows IP PBXs, phones, and other SIP-baseddevices to set up, tear down, and pass voice andcall control messages seamlessly through theintegral NAT-enabled firewall.AdministrationThe AOS offers both a Command Line Interface(CLI) that mimics the widely deployed, industryde facto standard and an intuitive web-basedGUI with step-by-step configuration wizards. For a centralized enterprise-wide managementscheme, ADTRAN offers n-Command®, anintuitive, scalable software suite for managingfirmware revisions, push firmware upgradesand configuration changes, backup and restoreconfigurations, and manage security policiesand Access Control Lists (ACLs).
