10Cleaning and maintenance ofFor reasons of hygiene andsafety, the cooking burnermust be kept clean.Grease stains and spilledfood generate smoke whenheated, and can even causefire.The splashguard can be removed tomake it easier to clean the surface.What to do:1. Hold the splashguard as shownin the diagram.2. Lift the splashguard straight up3. Clean the top surface asdescribed in “cleaning the steelsurface”.Be aware of the two retainingpegs, which are sharp.4. Replace the splashguard inposition ENSURE that it isfitted the correct way round.Never use hard or sharpimplements to lift off thesplashguard.Do not wash the splashguardin a dishwasher.The hob must not be usedwith the splashguard off.11Stainless steel surfacesPerform daily cleaning with a slightlydamp cloth. For more severe soiling,use a liquid cream. Always clean thesteel in the direction of the steel finish.To ensure that the steel retains itsshine, it is recommended that you use apolishing agent for stainless steel on aregular basis. Always polish in thedirection of the steel finish (cross-wise).Never use steel wool, metal sponges orother abrasive cleaning agents.Cleaning of gas burnerClean the control panel and knobs plusthe pan grid, as well as burner caps andrings, with ordinary cleansing agents.Never use scouring powder, Brillopads, metal pads or other scouringagents on enamelled or paintedsurfaces!Care must be taken to avoidboil-overIf water accidentally gets into the edgeof the burner head (boil-over) the watermust be removed with a lint-free clothbefore the burner is turned on again.Likewise, caps and grids must bethoroughly wiped off before the gasring is used again so that the boil-overdoes not permanently scar the enamelor paint.
