8 SBC-598 User ManualSafety precautionsWarning! Always completely disconnect the power cord fromyour chassis whenever you are working on it. Donot make connections while the power is onbecause sensitive electronic components can bedamaged by the sudden rush of power. Onlyexperienced electronics personnel should openthe PC chassis.Caution! Always ground yourself to remove any staticcharge before touching the CPU card. Modernelectronic devices are very sensitive to staticelectric charges. Use a grounding wrist strap at alltimes. Place all electronic components on astatic-dissipative surface or in a static-shieldedbag when they are not in the chassis.Conflicts! The VGA controller of SBC-598 uses IDSEL No.31, which is the same as that of the first PCI slot(i.e., "PCI1") on the PCI backplane (PICMG 2.0standard). Therefore, when the onboard VGAfunction is enabled, the first PCI slot on the PCIbackplane cannot have a peripheral card pluggedin otherwise hardware conflicts can result.SOCKETSCPU Installation/RemovalThe SBC-598 CPU card supports most Pentiums and Pentium-compatible CPUs. The system's performance depends on the CPUyou choose. You can install or upgrade the CPU in the board'sIntel Socket 7 socket by following the procedures outlined below.
