Technical SupportIn order to help solve any problems that might arise inthe course of using your PR5 mainboard we have includeda few troubleshooting guidelines and some pointers aboutcollecting information on your system to aid the techni-cal support process. You should consult your vendor forinstructions on how to obtain technical support.Troubleshooting GuidelinesHere are some basic troubleshooting guidelines that mayhelp you identify more specifically the cause of a hard-ware problem. Please note the information needed on theTroubleshooting Form (you may want to make a copy ofthe form and use that).Scenario 1: We’ ll assume your system includes: the PR5mainboard with CPU, DRAM and COAST cache mod-ule; hard drive, floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, display card,MPEG card, SCSI card and sound card. If you have a prob-lem, try the following procedures:If the system won’ t start:• Try installing another brand/model display card and seeif the system will start. If it does, please note the displaycard model, mainboard model, CPU, BIOS identificationnumber and a description of the problem.If the system will start:• Remove all expansion cards except the display card.Install the other expansion cards one at a time, and see ifthe system will start after you install each card. If thesystem won’ t start after you install a card, remove all theother cards and try to start the system with just the dis-play card and the card in doubt. If the system will notstart, please note the card information, mainboard model,CPU, BIOS identification number and a description ofthe problem.Scenario 2: We’ ll assume your system includes: the PR5mainboard with CPU, DRAM and COAST cache mod-ule; hard drive, floppy drive, CD-ROM drive, display card,MPEG card, SCSI card, LAN card and sound card. If youhave a problem, try the following procedure:If after installing the sound card driver the system auto-matically resets when it tries to load it:• Try by passing the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BATfiles by holding down the Shift key during the “ StartingMS-DOS” message.
