4 Configuring the system36Installing and replacing the processorThis section includes instructions for removing and installing a CPU.Caution: Processor must be appropriate. You may damage theserver board if you install a processor that is inappropriate foryour server.Caution: SD and handling processors. Reduce the risk ofelectrostatic discharge (ESD) damage to the processor by doingthe following: (1) Touch the metal chassis before touching theprocessor or server board. Keep part of your body in contact withthe metal chassis to dissipate the static charge while handling theprocessor. (2) Avoid moving around unnecessarily.To install the ProcessorCaution: Before installing or removing the processor, make surethat AC power has been removed by unplugging the power cordfrom the computer; the standby power LED should not be lit.Failure to do so could damage the processor and the board.To install a processor, follow these instructions:Before you start, please observe the ESD precautions on page 29.1 Open the socket lever by pushing the lever down and away fromthe socket.
