3 System upgrade74Installing and removing a powersupply moduleThe server has two power supply module bays on the rear panel thataccept hot-plug power supply modules. The system ships out with onlya single power supply module installed. You have the option topurchase an extra power supply module to provide the system with aredundant power source. A redundant power configuration enables afully-configured system to continue running even if one power supplymodule fails.WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage tothe equipment, the installation of power supply modulesshould be referred to individuals who are qualified to serviceserver systems and are trained to deal with equipment capableof generating hazardous energy levels.WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury from hotsurfaces, observe the thermal labels on each power supplymodule. You can also consider wearing protective gloves.WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury from electricshock hazards, do not open the power supply modules. Thereare no serviceable parts inside the module.Caution! Electrostatic discharge can damage electroniccomponents. Make sure that you are properly grounded beforehandling a power supply module.Caution! Due to chassis airflow disruption, a power supply bayshould never be vacant for more than two minutes when theserver is powered on. Exceeding five minutes might cause thesystem to exceed the maximum acceptable temperature andpossibly damage the system components.Caution! The power supply is only hot-pluggable if you have aredundant system with two power supplies installed. If youonly have one power supply installed, before removing orreplacing the power supply, you must first take the server outof service, turn off all peripheral devices connected to thesystem, turn off the system by pressing the power button, andunplug the AC power cord from the system or wall outlet.
