For component installation, follow the steps in the order given to eliminate the mostcommon problems encountered. If a step is unnecessary, skip ahead to the step that follows.Tools RequiredThe only tool you will need to install components and perform maintenance is a Philips screwdriver.6-1 Static-Sensitive DevicesElectrostatic Discharge (ESD) can damage electronic components. To prevent damage to anyprinted circuit boards (PCBs), it is important to handle them very carefully. The following measures aregenerally sufficient to protect your equipment from ESD discharge.Precautionso Use a grounded wrist strap designed to prevent static discharge.o Touch a grounded metal object before removing any board from its antistatic bag.o Handle a board by its edges only; do not touch its components, peripheral chips, memory modulesor gold contacts.o When handling chips or modules, avoid touching their pins.o Put the serverboard, add-on cards and peripherals back into their antistatic bags when not in use.o For grounding purposes, make sure your computer chassis provides excellent conductivity betweenthe power supply, the case, the mounting fasteners and the serverboard.
