The following tipswill help you take full advantage of the host adapter's advanceddesign features.Enabling Synchronous NegotiationSynchronous Negotiation is enabled (set to yes) by default on theAHA-2740W/2742W/2744W. You should normally enable thisoption on the host adapter because most SCSI devices support it andbecause it allows data to be transferred faster on the bus. however, because a few SCSI devices (e.g., certain CD-ROM drives) do notsupport Synchronous Negotiation and may malfunction if theyreceive a request for it, you may want to disable Synchronous Nego-tiation for that particular device. See Device Configuration on page3-13.Note: Even when Synchronous Negotiation is disabled onthe host adapter, the host adapter will still switch to Syn-chronous mode if it receives a request from the SCSI device.Enabling Wide NegotiationWide Negotiation is enabled (set to yes) by default on theAHA-2740W/2742W/2744W. For each 16-bit SCSI device connectedto the host adapter, Wide Negotiation should normally be enabled toallow for 16-bit data transfer instead of 8-bit. See Device Configura-tion on page 3-13.Note: Even when Wide Negotiation is disabled on the hostadapter, the host adapter will still switch to Wide Negotia-tion if it receives a request for it from the SCSI device.
