3 Chapter 1Open Architecture Designed for AutomationFor applications demanding customized control, an UNO-4683 that usesmore flexible, off-the-shelf technology is a better option. UNO-4683 usesoff-the-shelf components such as an x86 processor, an Ethernet chipset,CompactFlash®, and DRAM. At the same time, the UNO-4683 unit canbroadcast the process data through the Ethernet and share the data withoperators and managers. By using off-the-shelf components, machinebuilders can customize the control scheme they use for other machinesthat require multiple inputs, optimized control, or Ethernet communica-tion.
