3 Setting temporary IP addressusing ARP commandThis procedure will work only in a local network. After this procedure the temporary IP will be activeonly until restart/reboot. After a restart the procedurehas to be repeated.STEP 1Either use a network cable to link the Exstreamer andthe PC directly, or connect the Exstreamer to the PCvia your network switch and power the device. Makesure that you have a valid static IP address configured onyour PC (e.g. 192.168.0.2)STEP 2Windows : For a command window. click on «Start», clickon «Run..», in the «Open» field type cmd , click on «OK».OSX / Linux : Open a terminal window.STEP 3Please proceed to step 4 if you linked the PC directly tothe device in step 1. To ensure that you use a free IPaddress (not already used by another device in the network)please use the Ping command. To verify availability inthis example we assume the PC to have the IP address«192.168.0.2» and want to check if «192.168.0.6» is free.Type ping 192.168.0.6 and hit the «Enter» key. Youshould get no reply which gives you reasonable assertionthat the «pinged» IP is available.STEP 4Look for the Exstreamer’s MAC address printed on alabel on the bottom of the device (12 hex digits, separatedby a hyphen every 2 digits). Type into the windowscommand windowarp -s 192.168.0.6 00-08-E1-00-B1-77or on a OSX or Linux system type into the terminalarp -s 192.168.0.6 00:08:E1:00:B1:77and hit the «Enter» key (replace the digits according to yourdevices MAC address). You must have administrative rightsto be able to do so (sudo on OSX / Linux).STEP 5Now we have to make the Exstreamer listen to the IPaddress «192.168.0.6» using the Telnet command. To do sotype into the command window telnet 192.168.0.6 1and hit the «Enter» key (the number «one» must be therefor this command to work correctly !!!). The Exstreamer willimmediately refuse the connection on port 1, but will beavailable for browser access as long as the device stayspowered.STEP 6To check if the Exstreamer is responding you can usethe ping command again. To do so type ping 192.168.0.6and hit the «Enter» key. If you do get a reply the IP address192.168.0.6 can be used to access the Exstreamer using aweb browser. Please go back to section «2 Network configura-tion by web browser» to configure a static IP address. If you doget «request timed out» then please repeat step 5 carefully (youmost likely mistyped the telnet command) or repeat the entireprocedure. If the ARP method does not work for you, refer tothe user manual for further methods.4 Troubleshooting• If the front LEDs (C) stay dark check the powercabling (installation step 3).• Check if the green LED (J) is lit, if it is not then check yournetwork cabling.• If you have doubts about the current device settingsyou can revert the device to its factory defaults bypressing the Reset button (A) until the red status LED(C) blinks rapidly (takes about 10 seconds). The devicewill reboot once the button is released. For information about our products, manuals, technicaldocumentation, latest firmware, support and access tothe user forum please visit www.barix.com.Barix AG, Seefeldstrasse 303, CH-8008 ZürichP +41 43 433 22 11info@barix.com, www.barix.com
