34Once the antenna and base station are installed securely in the proper position, verifygrounding and lightning protection. An example of a completed directional antennainstallation is shown in Figure 4-30.Figure 4-30: Example - Completed Directional Antenna + Base Station Installation4.3.2.4 Install Directional Antenna on RooftopWhen installing a directional antenna on a rooftop, it is easier to install if the antenna and basestation are first attached to a mounting pole that will then be installed on the roof. Begin bywiring the lightning arrester on the top of the mounting pole. Next, install the directionalantenna and base station on the mounting pole with the provided supports. Ensure thedirectional antenna is vertically plumb with the proper down tilt for desired antennapropagation, as specified in the operator’s network design plan.In situations where there is a wainscot on the roof and it is taller than 3.9 feet (1.2 meters),attach the fixed mounting pole and antenna on the wall with expansion screws. If the wainscotis less than 3.9 feet (1.2 meters) tall, fix the mounting pole to the wall with expansion screwsand attach the base of the mounting pole to an adequate base support frame to stabilize themounting pole.If the roof does not have a wainscot, use expansion screws to fix the antenna mount on anadequate base support frame, such as concrete, or properly weight the frame to eliminatewind movement. Use guy wires to further stabilize the mounting pole.Once the antenna and base station are installed securely in the proper position, verifygrounding and lightning protection.
