THE GAS SYSTEMAll gas appliances fitted to your Bailey caravan aresuitable for operation on both Butane and Propanewithout the need for adjustment.General informationGas Cylinders: Bottled Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) isthe most convenient portable source of fuel for yourcaravan.Cylinders are available in the following sizes:Calor Gas = 3.9kg, 4.5kg, 6kg & 7kg.BP Gaslight = 5kg & 10kg.All sizes will fit into your gas box.The gas system meets BS EN 1949:2011 andshould only be modified by a competentperson.Never use portable cooking or heating appliances, otherthan electric heaters that are not direct radiant type, asit is a fire and asphyxiation hazard.Types of gasButaneButane is supplied in the UK in Green or Blue bottles.Continental bottles usually have a male left hand threadsimilar to but not identical with UK Butane.Butane is suitable for use at temperatures down to 2°Cbut will not work below that temperature.PropanePropane is supplied in red, or partly red bottles thathave a female left hand threaded connector.Scandinavian countries use the same connector.Germany or Austria supply Propane with a maleconnection.Propane will work at temperatures as low as -40°C andis therefore suitable for all winter caravanning.Make sure that heating, cooking appliances and gascylinders are switched off before you move the caravan.All gas appliances in your tourer can have their gassupply individually isolated by turning off the relevanttap. The tap is either located on the centrally positionedgas manifold or directly beside the appliance.Regularly check flexible gas hose, joints and connectionsfor tightness.Finally make sure that each gas appliance is workingefficiently to the recommendations of the appliancemanufacturers.The regulator is a governing device which adapts thebottle pressure to one that suits the equipment in thecaravan.Some industrial LPG appliances operate athigh pressure and require a ‘high pressure’regulator. This often has an adjusting handleon it. Never use such a regulatoron a caravan.• Propane and Butane gas regulators are notinterchangeable.• Always ensure that the gas system is inspected/maintained every 12 months.• In the event of a fire ensure all occupants evacuatethe caravan via the nearest escape route.• If it is safe to do so turn off the yellow isolating valvelocated in the gas box directly below the regulator.• If you suspect a gas leak then immediately turn offthe supply of gas at the yellow isolation tap locatedbelow the regulator in the gas box. Then turn offthe gas valve on the gas bottles. When this hasbeen completed the system must be inspected by acompetent person.• Never use gas bottles located outside the caravan gasbox. Do not use any gas extension hoses.• Gas barbecue - always use gas appliances that aresuitable for use at 30mbar.Your caravan is fitted with a regulator as standardequipment. This is located in the caravan gas boxmounted on the bulkhead of the caravan between thegas bottles. The gas regulator has a working pressureof 30mbar and is suitable for both propane and butaneliquefied petroleum gas. There are dedicated hosesavailable for different types of gas/bottle. They are alsoavailable for camping gas and other mainland EuropeLPG Suppliers. Please contact your Retailer who willhave a stock of these hoses.Changing Gas Cylinders• Ensure that the cylinder is empty, then:• Turn off the tap located by the gas regulator.• Turn off cylinder valve and all gas appliances• Remove the gas hose regulator from the cylinder.• Release retaining strap• Remove cylinder from gas locker and stand onground.!!
