Manual 2100-692Page 17 of 40Wiring – Main PowerMain electrical power must be supplied to the unitfrom a clean, reliable power source. Verify voltage beingsupplied to the unit is consistent during all times of theday and within the range specified for the unit in theunit specifications and on the unit serial plate. Voltagemust be measured at the field power connection pointin the unit and while the unit is operating at full load(maximum amperage operating condition).Refer to the unit serial plate and unit specificationsfor wire sizing information and maximum fuse orcircuit breaker size. Each outdoor unit is marked witha “Minimum Circuit Ampacity”. This means that thefield wiring used must be sized to carry that amountof current. Depending on the installed KW of electricheat, there may be two field power circuits required. Ifthis is the case, the unit serial plate will so indicate. All models are suitable only for connection with copperwire. Each unit and/or wiring diagram will be marked“Use Copper Conductors Only”. These instructionsmust be adhered to. Refer to the National ElectricalCode (NEC) for complete current carrying capacity dataon the various insulation grades of wiring material. Allwiring must conform to NEC and all local codes. The electrical data on the serial plate, in the unitspecifications and also in Table 12 on page 32 list fuseand wire sizes (75°C copper) for all models includingthe most commonly used heater sizes. The unit rating plate listsa “Maximum Time Delay Relay Fuse” or circuit breakerthat is to be used with the equipment. The correct typeand size must be used for proper circuit protection andalso to ensure that there will be no nuisance trippingdue to the momentary high starting current of thecompressor motor.Three phase models must have proper phasing. A phasemonitor is included in all three phase models, and willindicate improper phasing during a call for cooling(24VAC at Y1 terminal). See provided informationincluded in this document regarding the phase monitor.High Voltage ConnectionsRoute field wires under the field wire shield shown inFigure 18. (The field wire shield can be removed forwire installation.) If field power is supplied to the leftside of the unit, run the high voltage wires under theshield and to the right of the wire shield next to thecompressor contactor and up into the upper controlpanel where the connections are made. If field power issupplied to the right of side of the unit, the low voltagewires can be run under the field wire shield to accessthe low voltage terminal strip. When field wires are supplied through the back of theunit, flexible conduit must be extended through theback of the unit and terminate into the knock-outs onthe upper control panel (see Figure 18).MIS-4044WIRE SHIELDFIELD WIRE SHIELDFRONT VIEWUSE CONDUITWHEN FIELD WIRESCOME IN THROUGHTHE BACKRIGHT SIDE VIEW MIS-4044
