161BARRETT 4050 HF SDR TRANSCEIVER - OPERATING AND INSTALLATION MANUALPower SupplyWhen 12 V DC is supplied to the 4050 Transceiver, the PEP Voice output powerwill be restricted to 125 W. Conversely, when 24 V DC is supplied to the 4050Transceiver, the PEP Voice output power will achieve 150 W.Power output regulation is done automatically based on the DC voltage pre-sented to the Transceiver DC input connector. The Barrett 4022 Power Supply isavailable in two versions, the BC402200 (12 V DC) and the BC402201 (24 V DC)version. Each power supply version is capable of operation with AC mains inputvoltage between 88 and 256 V AC.In base station installations where no mains supply is available, various BarrettVRODUSRZHUVXSSO\YHUVLRQVDUHDYDLODEOHGHSHQGLQJRQWKHV\VWHPFRQÀJXUD-tion requirement.1RWH6RPHLQVWDOODWLRQVXVHDQ$&EDWWHU\FKDUJHUWRÁRDWFKDUJHWKHVXSSO\EDWWHU\%DWWHU\FKDUJHUVFDQSURGXFHHOHFWULFDOQRLVHIURPWKHUHFWLÀHUGLRGHVThis noise causes a static type of interference in the receiver. This means thatthe power supply cable must be heavy enough to supply these short durationcurrent peaks without excessive voltage drop. Preferably, only use the powercable supplied with the Transceiver. If extra cable is required, use a cable with aconductor square area of no less than 8 mm 2 . Unwanted voltage drop will alsooccur if incorrect wiring techniques such as poor choice of connection pointsand incorrect use of terminal lugs are used.Protection FuseThe Transceiver is provided with adequate internal protection. However, theÀWWLQJRIDQH[WHUQDOIXVHLVFRQVLGHUHGQHFHVVDU\QRWRQO\IRUSURWHFWLRQRIWKH7UDQVFHLYHULWVHOIEXWWRHQVXUHWKDWLQWKHHYHQWRIGDPDJHWRWKHFDEOHDÀUHrisk does not exist. The fuse used must be installed in the active wire as close aspossible to the battery, and must be of a type which has a low voltage drop atthe peak currents expected.
