TM 1-1510-218-108-1CHAPTER 8NORMAL PROCEDURES C D1 D2Section I. MISSION PLANNING8-1. MISSION PLANNING.Mission planning begins when the mission isassigned and extends to the preflight check of theaircraft. It includes, but is not limited to, checks ofoperating limits and restrictions, weight/balance andloading; performance; publications; flight plan; andcrew and passenger briefings. The pilot in commandshall ensure compliance with the contents of thismanual that are applicable to the mission.8-2. OPERATING LIMITS AND RESTRICTIONS.The minimum, maximum, normal, and cautionaryoperational ranges represent careful aerodynamic andstructural calculations, substantiated by flight test data. These limitations must be adhered to during all phasesof the mission. Refer to Chapter 5, Operating Limitsand Restrictions, for detailed information.8-3. WEIGHT, BALANCE, AND LOADING.The aircraft must be loaded, cargo andpassengers secured, and weight and balance verifiedper Chapter 6, Weight/Balance and Loading.8-4. PERFORMANCE.Refer to Chapter 7, Performance Data, todetermine the capability of the aircraft for the entiremission. Consideration must be given to changes inperformance resulting from variation in loads, temperatures, and pressure altitudes. Record the dataon the Takeoff and Landing Data (TOLD) card for usein completing the flight plan and for referencethroughout the mission.8-5. FLIGHT PLAN.A flight plan must be completed and filed per AR95-1, DOD Flight Information Publications, and localregulations.8-6. CREW AND PASSENGER BRIEFINGS.A crew/passenger briefing must be conducted fora thorough understanding of individual and teamresponsibilities. The briefing should include, but notbe limited to, copilot and ground crew responsibilitiesand the coordination necessary to complete themission most efficiently. A review of visual signals isdesirable when ground guides do not have a directvoice communications link with the crew. Refer toSection VI for crew and passenger briefings.Section II. OPERATING PROCEDURES AND MANEUVERS8-7. OPERATING PROCEDURES ANDMANEUVERS.This section deals with normal procedures andincludes all steps necessary for safe and efficientoperation of the aircraft from the time a preflight beginsuntil the flight is completed and the aircraft is parkedand secured. Unique feel, characteristics, andreaction of the aircraft during various phases ofoperation and the techniques and procedures used fortaxiing, takeoff, climb, etc., are described, includingprecautions to be observed. Only the duties of theminimum crew necessary for the actual operation ofthe aircraft are included.8-8. ADDITIONAL DATA.Procedures specifically related to instrumentflight that are different from normal procedures arecovered in this section following normal procedures.Descriptions of functions, operations, and effects ofcontrols are covered in Section IV, FlightCharacteristics, and are repeated in this section onlywhen required for emphasis. Checks that must bemade under adverse environmental conditions, suchas desert and cold weather operations, supplementnormal procedures checks in this section and arecovered in Section V, Adverse EnvironmentalConditions. Additional crew duties are covered asnecessary in Section VI, Crew Duties.8-9. CHECKLIST.Normal procedures are given primarily inchecklist form and are amplified as necessary inaccompanying paragraph form when a detaileddescription of a procedure or maneuver is required. Acondensed version of the amplified checklist, omitting
