A patient fills the unit with liquidoxygen from a Companion Stationary reservoir. When full, the Companion 1000/Tholds about 3.1 lbs (1.4 kg) of liquid oxygen in a double-walled, vacuum-insulatedcontainer. The liquid oxygen is vaporized into gas in a heat exchange system. Thegaseous oxygen is warmed to near room temperature and delivered to the patient at aselectable, metered flowrate. Flowrates up to 6 L/min are available from the Companion1000 while flowrates up to 15 L/min are available from the Companion T. A patientwill typically receive about eight hours of continuous flow oxygen at a flow setting of 2L/min. The liquid oxygen contents of the Companion 1000/T is measured by a weightscale that is activated by suspending the unit by one end of the carrying strap. Anexternal moisture collection cup is attached to the bottom of the Companion T. Thiseasily removable cup collects the additional condensed water that is created when theCompanion T is operated at higher flowrates.1.2 SERIAL NUMBER IDENTIFICATIONThe serial number on a Companion 1000/T is etched on the vent valve mountingbracket (Figure 1-3).
