Protocol FilteringMicroMMAC Local Management Routing Addendum5IP Routing — IP routing support provides the ability to process TCP/IPframes at the network layer for routing. IP routing support includes theRouting Information Protocol (RIP) that allows the exchange of routinginformation on a TCP/IP network. The MicroMMAC receives andbroadcasts RIP messages to adjacent routers and workstations.IPX Routing — Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) routing supportprovides the ability to process Novell proprietary frames at the networklayer for routing. IPX routing support includes both Routing InformationProtocol (RIP) and Service Advertising Protocol (SAP) that allows theexchange of routing information on a Novell NetWare network. The SAPprovides routers and servers containing SAP agents with a means ofexchanging internetwork service information.2.4 PROTOCOL FILTERINGFiltering enables efficient usage of network resources and providessecurity for the network and hosts.IP Internet FirewallThe MicroMMAC supports IP Internet Firewall filtering to preventunauthorized access to your system and network resources from theInternet or a corporate Intranet. Security can be configured to permit ordeny IP traffic. The security is established by configuring IP access filters, which are based on source IP address, source mask, destination IPaddress, destination mask, protocol type, and application port identifiersfor both the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User DatagramProtocol (UDP). These IP access filters allow individual IP source anddestination pair filtering as well as IP address ranges and wild carding tomatch any IP address. These Firewall filters can be defined to allowinbound only, outbound only, or bi-directional IP communication up tothe UDP and TCP application port level. Firewall access filters canestablish a powerful IP security barrier. The MicroMMAC supports the IP Access Control (from the ctip-mib)Internet Firewall Filter.
