Connecting to the NetworkSSR-600 Installation Guide3-113.6 CONNECTING TO THE NETWORKThis section provides the procedures for connecting the Ethernet ports ofthe SSR-600 to the network, and directions for information on connectingthe WAN ports. For more information, refer to Chapter 2.3.6.1 Connecting to the Fast Ethernet PortsThe two fixed front panel ports of the SSR-600 are 10/100 Fast Ethernetports with internal crossovers. When connecting a workstation to theSSR-600, use a straight-through cable. When connecting othernetworking devices, such as a bridge, repeater, or router to the SSR-600,use a crossover cable.Connect a twisted pair segment to one of the Fast Ethernet ports on theSSR-600 as follows:1. Ensure that the device connected to the other end of the segment ispowered ON.2. Connect the twisted pair segment to the SSR-600 by inserting the RJ45connector on the twisted pair segment into the desired RJ45 port asshown in Figure 3-10. Do not connect a cable connected to an Ethernetport to the console port..Figure 3-10 Connecting a Twisted Pair SegmentNOTEThe SSR-600’s two Fast Ethernet front panel ports supportCategory 5 Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cabling with animpedance between 85 and 111 ohms. Category 3 cable maybe used if the connection is only going to be used for 10 Mbps.RESETPWRCPULNKSTSSPD/100XMTRCVSPD/100XMTRCV10/100 10/100ETHERNET 1 ETHERNET 2 WIDE AREA 2WIDE AREA 1TELCO TELCOCONSOLE3032_01
