1-1CHAPTER 1INTRODUCTION1.1 PRODUCT OVERVIEWThe SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27TX provides a low cost, high performancesolution for 10/100 Mbps switched networks. The SmartSTACK EthernetELS10-27TX is configured with twenty-seven RJ45 ports supporting twenty-fourautonegotiating 10 Mbps ports and three autonegotiating 10/100 Mbps ports. Thedevice also features two EPIM-100 slots that allow the user to install up to twoEPIM-100s to provide multimode fiber uplinks (with potential for single modefiber). It also includes an RS232C port for local console management. In ELS10-27TX Version 1.0.1.00, the SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27TXsupports two forms of Virtual LANs. One is the IEEE 802.1Q standard and theother is a proprietary form that was developed prior to the IEEE standard beingavailable. The proprietary form is known as Workgroups. Virtual Workgroups areonly supported in the 802.1D mode and VLANs are only supported in the 802.1Qmode. This manual documents both forms. Also, modification of existing LCM commands were added that describe how toset an address limit on a port and how to configure destination IP addresses fortraps. For information on “enable address limit” and “trap control” refer toChapter 2, Enhancements to LCM Commands. This document does not attempt to describe the entire functionality of theSmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27TX product, but only differences betweenVersion 1.00.xx and Version 1.01.00 of the SmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27TXproduct.1.2 USING VLANS ON THE ELS10-27TXThis section describes Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) support for theSmartSTACK Ethernet ELS10-27TX switch. This section describes support forthe IEEE 802.1Q standard.
