Introduction1-2Using This ManualMMAC-Plus Remote Management capability for the chassis includes:• A Chassis View, which allows you to see at a glance the connection status ofany installed MMAC-Plus client modules, as well as basic information aboutthe Environmental Module, including the status of its communication ports,Ethernet EPIM port, and LCD read-out, and environmental conditions for thechassis as a whole.• An Environment View, which displays environmental information for theindividual client modules (including power consumption and operatingtemperature), as well as fan speed and power supply management.• A Backplane Configuration View, which shows how the installed clientmodules are currently configured with regard to the FNB backplanecomponent of the MMAC-Plus chassis, and allows you to change thatconfiguration.• Access to Client Module-specific management applications.You should read this manual thoroughly to understand MMAC-Plus RemoteManagement.Using This ManualThis manual covers management operations directly related to the monitoringand control of the chassis (including the configuration of client modules withrespect to the chassis). It also describes management functions that are shared bymost client modules, such as alarm and event monitoring.This manual does not describe management operations that are inherent toindividual client modules. These operations are covered in separate managementmodule guides; refer to these guides for more information on managing anindividual module.Chapter 1, Introduction, discusses the capabilities of Cabletron Systems MMAC-Plus Remote Management. It also lists related user manuals.Chapter 2, Getting Started, discusses how to initially configure MMAC-PlusRemote Management through the Chassis Setup view.Chapter 3, MMAC-Plus Management Views, describes viewing and using theChassis, Environment, and Backplane Config views of MMAC-Plus Management.We assume that you have a general working knowledge of data communicationsnetworks and their physical layer components.
