12Proper Usage and HandlingUsage Location• Do not use near strong magnets or neardevices that produce strong electromagneticfields.Electromagnetic radiation from devices such asTVs and game machines, and strong magneticfields from devices such as speakers and largemotors, may cause distortion in printed images.• Use in a well-ventilated area.• Leave about 10 cm (4 in.) of clearance aroundthe printer. Be sure to leave clearance aroundthe paper handling slot (at the rear) so thatpaper has sufficient room to jut out from theslot during printing.Handling Precautions• Never use volatile compounds or insecticideson the printer, and do not allow rubber or vinylmaterial to remain in prolonged contact withthe printer.These materials may cause deformation of theprinter’s casing.• Unplug the printer when you are not using it.But please note that you should plug in and runthe printer at least once every six months toensure that it remains functional.• Before transporting the printer, remove thepaper and ink cassettes and close the papercassette cover and the ink cassette cover.• Pack the printer into an appropriate case fortransport. If a case is not available, wrap it withcloth or other protective material to protectagainst scratches.OverheatingIf the printer overheats, it will temporarily stopoperating.This does not mean that the printerhas malfunctioned. The printer will resumenormal printing as soon as it cools down.Temporary stoppages are most likely to occurin the following cases:• When printing continuously.• If the room is unusually warm.• If the air vents are blocked or if ventilation isinadequate.
