87chapter 7TroubleshootingTop PageGlossaryContentsIndexScanning is too slow.Problem: The scanner is taking an unusually long time to print orscan.Cause1: The selected output resolution of the image may be toohigh for the resolution of your printer, or your computermay be low on memory.Solution: Before scanning the image, make sure you have set theScan Resolution on the Main tab to not exceed theresolution of your printer. Also check to see if there isenough memory available in your computer. Beforescanning, quit other applications that are not in use.Cause 2: DMA option for computer’s hard disk drive is not turnedon.Solution: Windows 98: Turn on the DMA option in the SystemProperties dialog as described below.Right-click the [My Computer] icon on the Windowsdesktop, select [Properties] from the pop-up menu andclick the [Device Manager] tab in the System Propertiesdialog. In the [Disk Drives] category, select the appropriatehard disk and click the [Properties] button on the DeviceManager tab. Click the [Settings] tab and place a check inthe [DMA] option. Restart the computer. (Please consultthe manufacturer of your computer for confirmation thatthe DMA function is supported.)Windows 2000: Turn on the DMA option. The proceduresare similar to those for Windows 98 with a few variations.
