Doing so could result in vision loss or blindness.• Whether it is attached to the camera or not, do not leavethe lens under the sun without the lens cap attached. Thisis to prevent the lens from concentrating the sun’s rays, whichcould cause a fire.Handling Cautions• If the lens is taken from a cold environment into a warmone, condensation may develop on the lens surface andinternal parts. To prevent condensation in this case, firstput the lens into an airtight plastic bag before taking it from acold to warm environment. Then take out the lens after it haswarmed gradually. Do the same when taking the lens from awarm environment into a cold one.• Do not leave the lens in excessive heat such as in a car indirect sunlight. High temperatures can cause the lens tomalfunction.• Please also refer to the handling cautions found in yourcamera’s instructions.Conventions used in this instructionWarning to prevent lens or camera malfunction ordamage.Supplementary notes on using the lens and takingpictures.This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation issubject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not causeharmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interferencereceived, including interference that may cause undesired operation.Do not make any changes or modifications to the equipment unlessotherwise specified in the instructions. If such changes or modificationsshould be made, you could be required to stop operation of theequipment.This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits fora class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. Theselimits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmfulinterference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, usesand can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and usedin accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference toradio communications.However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in aparticular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interferenceto radio or television reception, which can be determined by turningthe equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct theinterference by one or more of the following measures:• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.This Class B digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES-003.1. Mounting and Detaching the LensSee your camera’s instructions for details on mounting anddetaching the lens.• After detaching the lens, place the lens with the rear endup to prevent the lens surface and contacts from gettingscratched. (fig.❶)• If the contacts get soiled, scratched, or have fingerprints onthem, corrosion or faulty connections can result. The cameraand lens may not operate properly.• If the contacts get soiled or have fingerprints on them, cleanthem with a soft cloth.• If you remove the lens, cover it with the dust cap. To attachit properly, align the lens mount index and the index of thedust cap as shown in the diagram, and turn clockwise. (fig.❷)To remove it, reverse the order.2. ZoomingTurn the lens’ zoom ring to adjust the size of the photo field orsubject. (fig.❸)• For wide shots, turn the zoom ring toward the wide end.• For close-ups, turn the zoom ring toward the telephoto end.• Be sure to finish zooming before focusing. Zooming afterfocusing can affect the focus.• Blurring may temporarily occur if the zoom ring is quicklyrotated.• Zooming during still image exposure will result in delayedfocus. This causes any streaks of light that are capturedduring exposure to be blurred.3. Manual FocusWhen the camera’s focus mode is set to [MF], focus manually byturning the focusing ring (fig.❹).Quickly rotating the focusing ring may result in delayed focus.• Focus mode is set using the camera. Please refer to thecamera’s instructions.• After autofocusing in [AF+MF] mode, focus manually bypressing the shutter button halfway and turning the focusingring (full-time manual focusing).4. Image StabilizerThis lens is equipped with an Image Stabilizer. This functioncorrects camera shake, allowing users to capture sharp images.Also, the Image Stabilizer automatically provides optimal imagestabilization depending on shooting conditions (such as shootingstill subjects and following shots). Please set the Image StabilizerON or OFF using the camera settings. See your camera’sinstructions for details.• The Image Stabilizer cannot compensate for a blurred shotcaused by a subject that moved.• The Image Stabilizer may not be fully effective if you shootfrom a violently shaking vehicle or other transportation.• The Image Stabilizer consumes more power than normalshooting, so fewer shots can be taken if you use thefunction.• When shooting a still subject, it compensates for camerashake in all directions.• It compensates for vertical camera shake during followingshots in a horizontal direction, and compensates forhorizontal camera shake during following shots in a verticaldirection.• When you use a tripod, the Image Stabilizer should beturned off to save battery power.• Even with a monopod, the Image Stabilizer will be aseffective as during hand-held shooting.However, depending on the shooting environment, theImage Stabilizer effect may be less effective.■ Dynamic IS Function (Movie shooting only)The EF-M18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is equipped with dynamic IS,effective when shooting while walking since it expands the IS range.• Achieves effective IS at the wide end.• Automatically activates when the camera is set to MovieShooting.CT1-8583-001BNO; |
