No other EOScamera takes an EF-M lens.• "IS" stands for Image Stabilizer.• "STM" stands for stepping motor.Safety Precautions• Do not look at the sun or a bright light source through thelens. Doing so could result in vision loss or blindness.• Whether it is attached to the camera or not, do not leavethe lens under the sun without the lens cap attached. Thisis to prevent the lens from concentrating the sun’s rays, whichcould cause a fire.Handling Cautions• If the lens is taken from a cold environment into a warmone, condensation may develop on the lens surface andinternal parts. To prevent condensation in this case, firstput the lens into an airtight plastic bag before taking it from acold to warm environment. Then take out the lens after it haswarmed gradually. Do the same when taking the lens from awarm environment into a cold one.• Do not leave the lens in excessive heat such as in a car indirect sunlight. High temperatures can cause the lens tomalfunction.• Please also refer to the handling cautions found in yourcamera’s instructions.Usage Precautions• When using this lens, please check the Canon website for thelatest camera firmware. If the camera’s firmware is not thelatest version, be sure to update to the latest firmware.• For details on updating firmware, please check the Canonwebsite.• If you want to correct RAW images taken with this lensmounted to an EOS M, EOS M2, or EOS M3 camera,download the latest version of DPP (Digital Photo Professional)from the Canon website and use the DPP software.Conventions used in this instructionWarning to prevent lens or camera malfunction ordamage.Supplementary notes on using the lens and takingpictures.This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operationis subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device maynot cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must acceptany interference received, including interference that may causeundesired operation.Do not make any changes or modifications to the equipmentunless otherwise specified in the instructions. If such changesor modifications should be made, you could be required to stopoperation of the equipment.This equipment has been tested and found to comply with thelimits for a class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCCRules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protectionagainst harmful interference in a residential installation. Thisequipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energyand, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions,may cause harmful interference to radio communications.However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occurin a particular installation. Mounting and Detaching the LensSee your camera’s instructions for details on mounting anddetaching the lens.• After detaching the lens, place the lens with the rear endup to prevent the lens surface and contacts from gettingscratched. (fig.❶)• If the contacts get soiled, scratched, or have fingerprints onthem, corrosion or faulty connections can result. The cameraand lens may not operate properly.• If the contacts get soiled or have fingerprints on them, cleanthem with a soft cloth.• If you remove the lens, cover it with the dust cap. To attachit properly, align the lens mount index and the index of thedust cap as shown in the diagram, and turn clockwise. (fig.❷)To remove it, reverse the order.2. Shooting Preparations and Retracting LensShooting Preparations:With the lens retract position index and zoom position indexaligned, attach the lens to the camera. Turn the camera on.A message prompting you to operate the lens appears on thecamera’s liquid crystal monitor. Maintain pressure on the lens-retraction switch in the [▲] direction, and slightly rotate thezoom ring in the direction of the white arrow to release the lens-retraction switch. Further rotate the zoom ring until it clicks. Themessage on the camera’s liquid crystal monitor disappears. Thelens is now ready for shooting. (The center of the no. 15 pointingline in the focal length indicator will show above or to the left ofthe zoom position index extension line.) (fig.❸)Retracting Lens:Maintain pressure on the lens-retraction switch in the [▲] direction.Rotate the zoom ring in the opposite direction to the white arrow.Align the lens retract position index and the zoom position index.Release the lens-retraction switch to retract the lens.Do not forcibly rotate the zoom ring if its movement becomesconstricted in the lens retract position or wide end (15 mm)position. Doing so results in the risk of damaging the lensretraction switch mechanism.3. ZoomingTurn the lens’ zoom ring to adjust the size of the photo field orsubject. (fig.❹)• For wide shots, turn the zoom ring toward the wide end.• For close-ups, turn the zoom ring toward the telephoto end.• Be sure to finish zooming before focusing. Zooming afterfocusing can affect the focus.• Blurring may temporarily occur if the zoom ring is quicklyrotated.• Zooming during still image exposure will result in delayedfocus. This causes any streaks of light that are capturedduring exposure to be blurred. |
