97Shooting Using the Mode DialThe nature of CCDs is such that noise in the recorded imageincreases at slow shutter speeds. This camera, however, applies special processing to images shot at shutter speedsslower than 1.3 seconds to eliminate the noise, therebyproducing high-quality images. (However, a certain amount ofprocessing time may be required before the next image can beshot.)z The shutter speed, zoom and aperture value have thefollowing relationship.z The fastest shutter speed for flash synchronization is 1/500second*. Therefore, even if the shutter speed is preset to aspeed higher than 1/500 second, the camera automaticallyresets the shutter speed to 1/500 second during shooting.* When using an external flash, see pp. 266, 267.Shutter Speed Displayz The following shutter speeds can be set. 1/160 indicates1/160 second. Also, 0"3 indicates 0.3 second and 2"indicates 2 seconds.z You can change the combinations of shutter speeds andaperture values without altering the exposure (p. 135).Safety ShiftWith and modes, if [Safety Shift] is turned [On] (p. 55) in themenu, the shutter speed or aperture value is automaticallyadjusted for the correct exposure when it cannot be otherwiseobtained. Safety Shift is disabled when the flash is enabled.Aperture Value Shutter Speed (seconds)Maximum Wide Anglef/2.8 – 3.5 15 – 1/2000f/4.0 – 5.0 15 – 1/2500f/5.6 – 8.0 15 – 1/4000Maximum Telephoto f/4.5 – 5.6 15 – 1/2000f/6.3 – 8.0 15 – 1/250015" 13" 10" 8" 6" 5" 4" 3"2 2"5 2" 1"6 1"3 1" 0"8 0"6 0"5 0"4 0"31/4 1/5 1/6 1/8 1/10 1/13 1/15 1/20 1/25 1/30 1/40 1/50 1/601/80 1/100 1/125 1/160 1/200 1/250 1/320 1/400 1/500 1/6401/800 1/1000 1/1250 1/1600 1/2000 1/2500 1/3200 1/4000Downloaded From camera-usermanual.com Canon Manuals
