111Do’s and Don’tsCamcorderBe sure to observe the followingprecautions to ensure maximumperformance.• Back up your recordingsperiodically. Make sure to transferyour recordings to an external devicesuch as a computer or digital videorecorder ( 82) and back them upon a regular basis. This will protectyour important recordings in case ofdamage and create more free spaceon the memory. Canon shall not beliable for any data loss.• Do not carry the camcorder by theLCD panel. Be careful when closingthe LCD panel.• Do not leave the camcorder in placessubject to high temperatures (like theinside of a car under direct sunlight),or high humidity.• Do not use the camcorder near strongelectromagnetic fields such as aboveTVs, near plasma TVs or mobilephones.• Do not point the lens at strong lightsources. Do not leave the camcorderpointed at a bright subject.• Do not use or store the camcorder industy or sandy places. Thecamcorder is not waterproof – avoidalso water, mud or salt. If any of theabove should get into the camcorderit may damage the camcorder and/orthe lens.• Be careful of heat generated bylighting equipment.• Do not disassemble the camcorder. Ifthe camcorder does not functionproperly, consult qualified servicepersonnel.• Handle the camcorder with care. Donot subject the camcorder to shocksor vibration as this may causedamage.• When mounting the camcorder on atripod, make sure that the tripod'sfastening screw is shorter than5.5 mm (0.2 in.) and that its camera-positioning pin is retractable (notfixed). Using other tripods maydamage the camcorder.• When recording movies, try to get acalm, stable picture.Excessive camcorder movement whileshooting and extensive use of fast zoomsand panning can result in jittery scenes. Inextreme cases, the playback of suchscenes may result in visually inducedmotion sickness.
