Page 4White BalanceThe white balance function helps you accuratelyreproduce colors under different lightingconditions so that white objects will always looktruly white in your recordings. There are 4 optionsfor the white balance setting.Auto - Settings are automatically set by thecamcorder. Use this setting for outdoorscenes.Daylight - For recording outdoors on a bright day.Tungsten - For recording under tungsten andtungsten type (3-wavelength) fluorescentlighting.Set - Use the custom white balance for specialsituations not covered by the other options.The custom white balance will ensure thatwhite subjects appear white under variouslighting conditions.With the mode switch on P, press FUNC buttonthen scroll to the currently selected white balance.When you select [SET] do not press FUNC andcontinue instead with the procedure below.Point the camera at a white object, zoom in untilit fills the whole screen and press the joystick.When the adjustment is completed, the WB iconwill stop flashing and stays on. The camcorderretains the custom setting even if you turn off thecamcorder. Press FUNC to save the setting andclose the menu.Adjusting the VolumePress FUNC.Toggle the joystick up or down to find theSPEAKER and toggle the joystick left or right toadjust the volume.Press FUNC to close the menu.Setup MenuIn the SETUP menu the following can beadjusted; Shutter speed, Auto slow shutter(automatically uses slow shutter speeds to obtainbrighter recordings in places with insufficientlighting), Zoom speed, Image stabilization(compensates for camcorder shake even at fulltelephoto), wide-screen (16:9 is standard for thiscamera, if you desire 4:3 recording you must setthis) and Self timer.•••Manual Exposure AdjustmentBacklit subjects may be underexposed orsubjects under strong lights may be overexposed.To correct this, you can manually adjust theexposure. With the Mode switch set to P (exceptfor fireworks settings), if the joystick does notappear on screen, press the joystick to displayit. Push the joystick UP towards [EXP]. [EXP]on the joystick guide changes to light blue andthe exposure adjustment indicator and theneutral value "+/- 0" appear on the screen. Ifyou operate the zoom during exposure lock, thebrightness of the image may change. Pushing upon the joystick will return the camcorder to autoexposure.Changing the Shutter speedUse the automatic exposure (AE) program to setthe shutter speed or select one of the specialscene recording programs.Make sure the mode switch is set to PTo set the Shutter speed in P;press the FUNC button, and choose Menu, thencamera setup, then shutter and select the speedyou wish to use. Suggestions are listed below.The screen will display only the denominator ( P50 for 1/50).1/60 - For general recordings1/100 - For recording indoor sports scenes1/250, 1/500, 1//1000 - For recording from withina car or train, or for recording moving subjectssuch as roller coasters1/2000 - For recording outdoor sports such asTennis or Baseball on sunny daysDo not move the mode switch while recording asthe brightness of the image may change abruptly.If the speed selected flashs it is inappropriate forlighting conditions.Recording movies under fluorescent lightsIf the screen starts to flicker, set the shutter speedto 1/100.Self TimerSet the camcorder in record pause mode, pressFUNC then choose MENU and select Camerasetup then self timer. Select ON and pressFUNC. Press START/STOP and the camera willbegin recording after a 10 second delay.
